The Forest

I stand in my living room looking at an old picture of my family, the wood picture frame surrounding us perfectly.

They are all dead... Well except for me. Tears run slowly down my face dropping onto the floor.

Quickly I wiped my tears, no more crying.

With my leather bag on my back and my plad button up around my waste, I walk away from the picture, towards the front door.

It's been a year since the Wave that wiped out most of the population, including my family. The ones who survived are the ages 15-22, which is fucking weird. I was 16 at the time.

The Wave went through the word, making it go into chaos with no laws.

I begin to notice that I was not growing at all, and I stopped having my monthly 'Lady's days'. I'm guess it's an affect of the Wave because I think I've stopped ageing.

So I'm a 17 year old that's stuck in a 16 year old's body, guess that's not that bad.

Everyone that survived has joined a faction, well most people. Not me, I chose not too.

It was not uncommon for factions to have wars with each other, and being with a group is not my thing. I have learned to trust no one.

Reaching the front old wooden door I walked out of my now old home. Bye bye I guess, I'll probably come visit sometime.

I decided to become a lone traveler,  but a traveler with no destination. Like a lone wolf or Rogue in those cheesy werewolf stories I used to read.

Why leave?

Well I just don't want to be here any more. It's like I'm waiting for the world to end, watching the chaos unfold.

I live, well lived in a now abandoned town, I was the only one who lived here. All the others left after the Wave, there wasn't a lot of us that survived, only 21.

Not all the people in the age group survived, vary little of us actually. All of them left to probably form different factions or join them anyway, after the fight.

The fight was a fight after the Wave and 10 people were killed. One of them who died was my best friend Mary and her last words are all ways in the back of my mind.

*Flashback*

Mary lays on the pavement motionless, blood surrounding her, seeping out of her stomach. I look in horror at my best friend, a knife was stuck in stomach, she was still alive. The boy who did it, Craig, was standing besides her body.

I looked at the kitchen knife I had in my hand, then looked straight at Craig. He had Mary's blood all over his hands and was breathing heavily. Suddenly my hand went up and threw the knife straight into his chest.

This was my first kill, and although I'd  hate to say it, probably not my last.

His body slumped and dropped to the ground.

I didn't waste a second to go and run over to Mary, I kneeled down next to her breathing heavily. "Oh my god Mary!" I cried out looking at the knife in her stomach. "It's going to be okay, your going to be okay."

"No." She whispered, "It's not going to be okay for me, but it will be okay for you Nora." She slowly started to close her eyes. I sat there watching, silently crying.

*End of Flashback*

I have been training to fight and survive ever since.

If you been in your little town for this long how do you know about the factions and stuff? You may be asking.

A 'traveler' told me all about the factions and the age thing, but no surprise he was from the Black Tree fraction and long story short tried to kill me.

Walking down the worn and cracked road of the town, I'm on high alert.

Slowly going towards the dark green forest. I hope there are no factions near here, I'm going to have to be careful.

I walked into the forest listening and looking around me, I'm on edge.
