Peace by the river

Done. Their mission was fulfilled and they can almost go home. Blood and sweat poured down their foreheads as they struggled to keep alive. It was a battle of the fittest. 21 men against a whole troop of perfectly fit and armed soldiers. How’s that for a mission? 8 hours of survival is already considered a feat. But that wasn’t their goal. They wanted to live.

They had already gave their all and there was only one thing on their mind. Family, friends, relatives and many more people they want to meet filled up their minds. Struggling to keep focused on the mission, Jin-pyo started to make his way through the thick forest and navigate the way to their pickup point. It’s about time for the submarine to reach the designated area. They can go home, soon.

“Hurry! We’re already finishing our mission! We just have to return to the pickup point and our tasks are done!” urged Jin-pyo, pushing on all the other worn out comrades. 21 men had all survived the heavy onslaught of the menacing North Korean soldiers. However, they sustained many critical and fatal blows and were on the verge of death. It is only a matter of time before their life expires.

Taking on the front lines bravely, Jin-pyo quickly scanned and breezed through the thick vines and trees of the vast amazon forest dividing them from the ocean, which they so badly wanted to go. Noticing that they are in a tight spot, Jin-pyo made no haste and decided with his intelligent mind on what to do and which way to go. Moo-Yul’s face was weak and pale. Blood oozed out of his slashed open wound and his face was loosing sign of life. He knew he was about to die. Beads of sweat formed across his forehead as he struggled not to scream in pain inflicted by his burdened wound. Gritting his teeth, face tensed in agony, Moo-Yul let out a small grunt. Suddenly, Jin-pyo sensed something. The air was suddenly filled with the scent of seawater. The winds were all blowing with such intense force that they were almost swept off their feet. It came to their realization that they are nearing their destination point. Picking up their speed, they gave their every ounce of strength left in them and sped to the crashing waves in front of them. They can finally go home. A holy sign appeared before them as they saw the undeniable submarine body arise from the deep floors of the sea, well hidden. Their job is done, its time to go home.

Or is it not?
