What the hell was this thing?
And why did it seem so interested in Mason?
First it roared in his face and made him pass out, then it took his body, slung it over his shoulder, and took it to the living room.
They wanted to stop this thing, whatever it was, but it just felt too unnatural. Something about this creature felt so out of place... but at the same time...
With all of this hysteria and crazy, chaotic shit going on, it felt like it was supposed to be here.
"... I'm not letting that thing eat Mason." Grant whispered harshly as he soldiered on past the rest of his friend's and the twins, sparing the youngest ones a determined glance, "The big monster isn't going to hurt you two anymore, okay?" Grant dropped his hardened expression to smile at them reassuringly, giving them a thumbs up as well, "Uncle Grant is gonna fix this, y'all."
"Grant!" Andre whispered as he dashed forward to yank him back and prevent him from getting killed, "Nigga, what are you doing?!"
"What does it look like, I'm tryna save our damn friend before he gets eaten or some shit!" Grant replied as he brushed Andre's arm away and proceeded to the kitchen. Andre continued to follow him in, but it didn't put any kind of slow down on Grant's determination, "Those hood niggas that tried to shoot at that lil' pale demon thing had the right idea." Turning around with speed, Grant faced his friend with two knives in hand, "You gonna help or you gonna watch?"
The two looked at each other for several seconds before they felt a gust of wind brush against them from the left.
Grant's eyes darted to his right, and his heart dropped with the quickness. The creature was leaning over the counter like it was sitting in one of the stools, eyeing the two boys with mischievous curiosity. Apparently its eyes changed colors, because they were no longer red. Instead they glowed a bright, yet sinister yellow.
The two humans were frozen in place as the stare down intensified. Neither side budged.
"What the fuck are you?! What do you want from us?!" Grant yelled as he brought one of his knives up in attempt to reach across the counter and stab this thing. He dashed forward, his mind made.
Sitting around, tiptoeing around, walking on eggshells due to the fear of whatever this was wasn't how he wanted to spend the rest of the night. He definitely didn't want to not put in any effort to get Mason back either. So it all came down to this.
Too bad that the creature smiled widely as he brought Mason's sleeping body in front of him as a sudden human shield.
At the very last second, with just mere inches between the point of the knife and Mason's throat, Grant reeled himself back. Fury shone in his eyes as he glared at the creature.
If he was mad before, he was even more livid once the shadowy figure wagged its finger at him like he was a child being told not to do something.
With Andre being the most rational non-monster thing there, he grabbed Grant and forcefully dragged him out of the kitchen. It wasn't a easy task, since Grant was the most muscular one in the group and didn't liked to be manhandled, but adrenaline always gave that extra boost needed in high-strung situations.
On their way out the kitchen, Andre noticed his siblings still frozen in fear and staring at the monster in the hallway. Giving Grant a forceful push and a stern warning glare to get his unspoken point across, he turned back and ran for his siblings, snatching them up and turning back around to begin taking them back down the hall with the rest of the group.
Right before they could escape the living room, the creature's jaws snapped open with yet another sickening squelch. It gave the two children under Andre's arm pointed stares, then looked at Andre and gave a deep, smug chuckle. Snapping its jaws repeatedly, it kept darting its eyes between the children and Andre.
