It took a lot longer than I expected, Peter and I had to sort out a lot of the Kingdom's trade deals.
I don't even know what time it is, but by the looks of it I'd say we're a good few hours past midnight. Me and Peter were in the official High Rulers room in the middle of the castle. Our room is on one of the far ends of the castle so I'll have to walk a bit before I reach it. I'd say that it's quite a beautiful night if I weren't so awfully tired.
The stone walls beautifully reflect the moonlight but all I can think of is how they seem to stretch on, for kilometers ahead. But truthfully, I am slowing my pace a bit because I don't want to face Edmund if he is awake at this hour. He is a bit grumpy when sleepy. Well, that's one of the few traits we seem to share. He had offered to wait up for me but I imagine he'd be asleep by now. It is after all, awfully awfully late now that I can see the clock. After what seems to be hours in my sleepy mind, I finally spot my bedroom door.
Oh lord. Why did we have to make these things so ginormous and heavy? It's an inconvenience when one is so tired.
I press myself against the door and push it open. The window is open and the moonlight shines so brightly on Edmund who I dare say looks much like a Prince. Appreciation aside, I am quite tired to engage in a conflict with Edmund at this hour. Stubbornness is another trait we share. Better be loving if I am to get out of this easy.
He's still looking out into the mountains in the distance, arm lying on the window still. His face is only partly visible as he is only half facing the window. He is half turned towards me. Edmund hasn't noticed me yet. I figure it'd be awfully ambitious of me to just slip into bed unnoticed.''I thought you'd have gone to bed by now.'' I ask half whispering half hoping he wouldn't hear me.
He turns his head towards me and looks at me with that constant frown of his.
"No I," He starts as he moves away from the window
"I promised you I'd wait up didn't I?'' He asks moving towards me.
He looked at me just once when I asked him the question, but as he moves towards me, Edmund keeps his head down.
I figure he must be extremely tired.
I close the door and move towards him so that I can meet him halfway. We meet in the middle of the room.Edmund slides his arm over my own, and slides his palm down until he is grabbing my right wrist.
"I'm sorry Edmund, I... Me and Peter had a lot to go over." I figure the last part might not have been a very good line for me to have said.
Edmund hasn't changed his stance, he's still looking at my wrist in his arm.
"I didn't imagine we'd run this late Edmund. I feel awful knowing that you stayed up till this hour.''
He finally looks at me.
He is standing awfully close to me and his face is quite close to my own so I can see his beautiful features enhanced by the moonlight. His eyes seem to wander over my face for a bit until he decides to focus on my eyes.
Even so late at night, I feel my heart skip a beat when he stares at me like that.
"I'm more than happy to stay up for you, love." He looks into my eyes even deeper as he says that.
I loosen my arm from his gently, and move my arms up towards his shoulder and lay them there softly. I pull him closer towards me so I can kiss his forehead."Edmund Pevensie, I love you." I whisper ever so gently, careful not to shatter the silence of the room.
Edmund grins at me and I figure I've conquered the conflict barrier.
"I could bring some work over next time." Peter would never allow it but who needs to inform Peter? Besides, Edmund is surprisingly good at these things.
He smiles and leans in closer, and for a second there I expect him to kiss me, but he just presses his forehead against mine and grins.
My fatigue must be making me lightheaded for, I too start grinning. And a few seconds later I start giggling.
Edmund must find the situation rather amusing because he decides to entertain me and joins along.
Our giggles cease after a while but I can't stop grinning.
Edmund grins back at first but then he lets out a sigh.
I look up at him and I'm met with his deep brown eyes staring into mine like before.
