sunday afternoon

"jason," she giggled, soft light flowing in from the window near her bed. he laughed along with her, smiling as he planted soft, tiny kisses all over her face. he placed his hands on her waist keeping her down as he rolled over to lean above her, propping himself up on one elbow. he kissed her again, on her nose, making her let out another giggle.

"i love you so much," he whispered to her, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. he placed a kiss on her lips, breif and sweet. then, that ever so sweet knocking. "i'll see you," jason whispered again, lips pulled into that signature smile of his.

her eyes fluttered open, expecting soft light flowing in from her window, only to be met with a blinding light and thaf goddamned knocking. half asleep, she thought over that dream, a happy moment was now nothing but mocking. that all american boy smile, the exact same words he gave her when he kissed her and ran off. it left her feeling bittersweet.

it was time to face the world. maisey got up on her two feet and walked to the door, opening it a crack, to see ezra. she swung the door open and turned around to jump back into her bed. "i'm so done with the fucking knocking."

"you're awfully grouchy," he said, seating himself atop a stool by the counter. "i see that you didn't take the time to unpack all these boxes, but it's nice to see that all your furniture finally came in." ezra took a look around, eyeing the place. "though, i feel like there's something missing?"

"yeah, the couch," maisey bickered into her pillow. "i have a feeling the guy i bought it off scammed me."

"wait, you bought it from someone? why didn't you just shop from a store, i'm pretty sure mom gave you more than enough."

"can we not talk about mom," maisey hissed, abruptly sitting up. "i don't want anything to do with that bitch."

"jeez, why so bitter?" he muttered, setting a box of pizza atop the counter. "before you left, you were the defending dianne from me and wes."

"well, things change. i'm done. drop it, ez."

monday morning

today was the day. maisey swung one strap of her backpack over her shoulder and left the apartment to say bye to ezra across the hall. luckily for her, she caught her brother on the way out. "i was just on my way to run some errands, do you want a ride?" he asked her.

maisey rolled her eyes, taking the other strap of her bag over her shoulder. "you wouldn't be running errands this early, ez. you can just tell me that you want to drop me off."

he smiled, dropping the act. "alright, you've been away for a while and it just gives me a sense of nostalgia. can i drop you off?"

"okay."

the car ride was silent, nothing but whatever was on the radio filling the space in the car. ezra began to talk, rambling on about aria, she guessed. maisey wasn't really listening, consumed by her own thoughts. it was finally monday, the ever awaited see you day. she would see jason, her old romance that she never really got over, the young boy turned into a fine man, but then again, he was already a man when they first fell in love. and her mother hated her for it.

maisey squared away any negative thoughts, focusing her attention on ezra bringing the car to a stop. "good luck today," he told her as she opened the car door.
