Life is but a Game

"Good morning mom..." I mumbled.

"There is no time for talking! Only eating, now open up!" my mom exclaimed.

I threw up only twice this time, my stomach angry with my mom's forceful diet. I know it would hurt more if it was empty, but my stomach doesn't really know what it wants in reality.

"I grretuf geff muffrm" I choked, trying to communicate.

"Chew Alex, just chew" she said.

I teleported to my new classroom, but something was wrong. I'm in the 2nd row, oh no. Not the 2nd row, what did I get wrong on the tests?! Not that much, right? If mom finds out... when she finds out, I'm dead. I have maintained a first row seating my whole life! Why now?! Why... oh... I need to escape. I will be trapped here forever if I don't!

"The Rebo was a era of war and death that occurred on August 7th, 627021069..." The AI droned.

For now I... for now I need to concentrate. 2nd period, 5th period, 22nd period, 34th, 56th.

"The information on website ABCnews.com.co held a lot of propaganda that seemed like it was information from ABCnews.com. Some of the baseless information was-" The AI bombinated.

"What does it matter?!" I yelled in an errotic manner, "Why do we need to know this?!"

A floating hologram popped up, "Be quiet during lessons."

"I'm tired of being quiet! This is ridiculous. We have gone over 514 websites that state false information, and we haven't received a single reason why those website are important."

"If you don't want to be put a few seats farther, I suggest you silence yourself Mr. Ruens," the AI spoke with a certain bitterness I never thought possible.

"Ye-yes sir," I muttered, caught off guard.

"Some of this baseless information was..."

What, what happened? Why did I just say that?! Stupid, stupid, stupid! The kids in the front were focused on the AI, some of the kids around me weren't. They instead glanced at me with unknowing eyes, scribbling down notes simplified to alien symbols. Concentrate.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING AWAKE!? GO TO BED GO TO GO TO BED!" my mother screeched lividly.

"I'm sorry mom, I am but-" I pleaded.

"I'm disappointed Alex... Go to BED GO TO BED RIGHT NOW!"

She pulls out a chair next to my bed and then turns on some white noise machines and lights a few candles. I jump in the bed as quickly as I can, hoping that her wrath won't follow into the morning.

"No thinking Alex!" she yells slightly quieter.

I close my eyes, hoping that I lose consciousness, quickly.

"I Forgot... Clora, Please!"

She was still angry. Mountains of fattening food laid on several plates, threatening to bury me if gravity yearned so. Ouch. This is going to be difficult.

I was very far back this time, 8 rows from the front or so. The AI's shimmering hologram was difficult to make out from so far away, not to mention I could barely hear it's auditory speakers.

Why aren't there more so everyone can hear?

I attempted to take the best notes I could.

"Period 35 will be ending now, Any questions?"

I raised my hand, I could barely hear the AI from the distance and wanted a synopsis of the section. But.

"Goodbye," the AI buzzed.

The kids around me laughed at me, whispering to the others adjacent to my desk. I was unwanted in this society, and I would only keep going farther and farther back.

"I understand now, Clora... I'm-"

I stared at my eyelids, listening to the upset whining of my mother.

"YOU FAILED US!" the words echoed.

No. You failed me, mom.

I pulled the headset from its place again. I'll run away and never come back to this place. I'll go to my world and live there. The lady from before flooded my memory, the image of the hungry beasts and my bloody arm pierced my anger. No. They are nothing the like the horrors of this world. It's a game... even if I get some "game over" I can alway restart, right? My fingers tensed around the headset. Yeah.

[GAME START]

What.

The planet I created was different. It wasn't barren and flat, there was a wider array of species, some of which he hadn't seen before. But most different, it had humans on it. They looked emotionless and unfeeling like those of that world. The last time he was here he had forgotten to speed up the game’s time, it had probably been centuries, or maybe eras since I had last been here.

“What the-?!”

A piece of paper flew into my face. Taking the paper from the wind’s grasp, I read it instinctively;
Leadership, envy, hope, fear, bravery, pride, insanity, sanity, greed, kindness, determination, gluttony, sloth, lust, modestness, wrath, mercy, anger, sadness, joy, knowledge, confusion, darkness, light.

Looking up from the list I saw the humans again. Their skin shone with sweat as parents worked and children played. They all looked… happy. They…

You. This was your doing wasn’t it? You wanted me out of here to do this. I’ll find you…

With their new found emotion the people spoke to each other in varying tones, walking in varied strides. Their humanity, it was unlike that of any I had ever seen. Slowly my anger faded into the warming sun and soft breeze. I... I think I understand... friend. Wherever you are, thank you. I promise to help this world. I closed my eyes taking it all in. My world. I saw sat down against a tree and faced the small, lively village, twisting the clouds above me into nonsense shapes. I'll never leave. Not again.
"Dammit Clora. That is why!"
