Location: Approximately one mile under Mt. Ebott, underground ruins.
I awoke to the pleasant scent of butterscotch-cinnamon pie today. To my amusement, it seemed that Toriel had baked me something for breakfast, as a gift.
I savored the slice of pie, not having eaten anything home made for far too long.
Now that I think of it, this has been the first time I've slept soundly ever since getting enlisted. Not entirely full, I stepped out of the room to look for Toriel, wanting to ask if I could take some pie along with me. Or if I could get the recipe.
You know, for when the war ends.
After taking some extra slices of pie from the kitchen, and writing down the ingredients for butterscotch-cinnamon pie, I asked if Toriel knew if there was an exit to the ruins. She hesitated, but told me of a door in the basement that would lead outside the ruins.
"I have no doubts that you are capable of taking care of yourself, my child. But please, if you encounter any monsters.... show them some Mercy.. will you not?" She asked, looking at me with pleading eyes.
Truth be told, I had no intention of hurting anyone here.
These are civilians, after all, not warriors. To harm them would be to break a code of honor. I assured Toriel, I'd lay not a single hand on anyone.
Toriel seemed satisfied with my answer, and glanced towards the stairs leading to the basement.
Sensing a mutual understanding, I carefully made my way downstairs and through the rest of the ruins, pausing when I realized Toriel had given me a cell phone. Knowing that she most likely gave it to me for a reason, I kept walking.
Ignoring the strange flower from earlier as it appeared once again, I opened a large door that led to the outside of the ruins.
A cold wind numbed my face, making me shiver. Looking around, I noticed that the area was covered in a thick blanket of snow.
Which wouldn't normally be strange, except it was the middle of spring. There were also many trees, despite the fact that nothing should be growing underground.
I continued forward. As I walked, though, I got the feeling that someone was watching me. First it was the sound of a stick snapping, one I had just stepped over.
Then it was a shadow from the corner of my eyes.
As I reached a rather sorry attempt of a barricade, I felt a presence behind me. I wasn't afraid of fighting if need be, but I remembered the promise I made to Toriel.
The figure behind me spoke, in a typical New Yorker accent.
"Don'tcha know how to greet a new pal? Turn around, and shake my hand."
I sighed, turning around and outstretching my hand. The figure took it, a loud fart noise coming from the figure. It pulled down its hoodie, revealing a grinning skeleton with white pinpricks in its eye sockets. I snickered despite myself at the immature joke.
"Heh. The ol' 'whoopee cushion in the hand' trick. Always funny. The names Sans. Sans the skeleton."
He chuckled, not opening his mouth yet still speaking.
"Sargent Ann Lee, pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sans."
I smiled, already liking Sans. He raised a eyebrow bone. "Sargent? You some kinda soldier or somethin'?"
I nodded deftly, then tipped my helmet at him.
"Third ranking sniper in North Carolina militia, to be exact."
