You are either dating to get married or you're dating to break up. There is no in between.
That's what my mom always told me anyways. Before I went to bed last night, that popped into my head for some reason. I thought about it for a while and realized how true it is. I always just let everything she said fly over my head, but this stuck.
It stuck right in the back of my brain and decided to keep me up all night. I was completely exhausted from my night with Jack, but it still kept me up later than I had hoped.
To be completely honest, out of all the guys I've dated, I could never have pictured myself marrying any of them. That is probably the reason we also broke up. I once had this guy in junior year give me a promise ring and we broke up because I told him I couldn't see myself marrying him.
I finally made it to sleep later than I had expected and remembered that my friends are getting back from NYC tomorrow.
*****
The next morning I awake to a loud knocking on my door. I roll out of bed, not bothering to put on anything over my sports bra and shorts. My hair is thrown messily into a braid from the night before and I'm not wearing makeup.
I swing open the door, hoping to see Lola and Miley. Not only do I see my best friends, but there are four boys standing along side them. Miley pushes her way into my apartment followed by Lola. I move and the boys make they're way inside.
Miley grins at me and starts chattering. "I thought Lo and I would have you to ourselves today, but by the looks of it, there are four very handsome men stealing our best friend."
I open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. Miley laughs. "I'm messing with you Addie. We totally can share you." Wiggling her eyebrows, she makes kissy faces at me. I roll my eyes, but the tips of my ears heat up.
I glance over the guys. Aaron and Grayson are making themselves comfortable on the couch. Ethan is leaning against the counter on his phone. Jack is patiently waiting for me to stop talking to Miley, leaning against the wall. I bump shoulders with Miley and walk to Jack.
I bite my lip and run my fingers through his thick locks of hair. "Surprise visit?"
"Gray was getting impatient and needed to get out of the house. Ethan really wants to talk to you... if you couldn't tell by the millions of texts he's sent you. And I just really wanted to see you." He leans in and presses his lips against mine. I smile against his lips and I hear groaning.
"Get a room!"
"Yuck!"
"PDA PDA!"
"My eyes! I'm just a child!"I don't remove my lips from his but I make the effort to stick up my middle finger. Jack laughs and pulls away. Being his height makes him a lot taller than me so I'm standing on my tiptoes. I walk away and toward the couch. I sit down in between Grayson and Aaron.
"How has your day been so far Beautiful?" Grayson asks.
I look over to him. "Is that a joke? I just woke up."
He shows me the time on his phone. 11:23am. "You must have had a late night."
"You have no idea..." I say. He raises an eyebrow and I smile as innocently as possible.
Changing the subject, he asks a really random question. "Have you ever been to Coachella?"
"No, but Lo, Miley, and I are going this year."
He nods. "So are me and E."
"Really? Great! It's coming up. I need to get clothes."
"I'm going to the mall later if you want to come. No Ethan though."
