I throw on some mascara and an adidas hoodie over my t-shirt. I grab my phone and car keys.
"Dad!?" I yell into the quiet apartment.
"What's up Pumpkin?" He asks as he walks to where I'm waiting by the front door.
I laugh at his appearance. His messy hair and plaid pajama pants. "I'm just meeting up with a friend. Don't wait up."
He nods and kisses my forehead. "Be safe and be home before midnight."
I smile at him and leave. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket.

I hop in my Ford Explorer and drive to Panera in exactly 10 minutes like I said. I walk in and scan the sitting area. He's not there yet so I pick a table for two by the window. I wait another 3 minutes and begin to get impatient. I go and get my signature mango smoothie while I wait. Another 5 minutes pass and I start to feel embarrassed.
I should have known he wouldn't show for my ugly ass. But he did say he left the house.

"Don't worry. I just had to get gas. I'm glad you were worried though." I hear a deep voice say behind me. I stand up and turn to face a tall, dark stature.
I feel my face flush. "Sorry... as you can tell by now, I'm not very patient."
"I also see you bought yourself a drink. I'm pretty sure that's my job."
I give him a confused look. "Your job?"
"Yeah, isn't the guy supposed to pay for the first date?"
I roll my eyes. "Oh, so this is a date now? I'm pretty sure I only agreed to meet up, not go on a date."
He walks over to the seat across from mine and sits down. I also sit back down and unlock my phone. I see a couple texts in the group chat with my best friends Lola and Miley.
