"There she is!" My mom proudly said startling me, as I waled into the living room. My whole family had been waiting for me. Mom stood in the middle of the floor, with a huge grin on her face. My dad still sitting his recliner chair, gave me a warm smile. Jada and Cameron seemed unbothered with the situation. They should because it's not like this is my first date. But I guess it's a big deal, since they never get to meet most of the guys I go out with.
"What are you guys doing?" I promptly asked.
"Waiting for your date." My mom said in obvious tone, with a cynical look. I can tell she's up to something.
"I meant only you could meat him, not everyone else. This is the first date, and I don't want him to feel overwhelmed." I stressed to my overwhelmingly family.
"We're not overwhelming." My dad chimed in.
"Renée, couldn't you find something to wear less.... short?" She asks waving her pointing finger at my black floral dress.
"It's not even that short." I exclaim.
"Let me just..." She bends over and yanks at the bottom of my dress, as it that'll make it longer.
"Mom, stop!" I pull her hands away for her to stop.
"Why do you always wear a v-neck? What? Do you not have any crew neck dresses?" She says with her heavy accent, and begins to adjust the straps of my dress. We fight over the adjustments, until we were interrupted.
The doorbell rang and my family beamed with excitement. I groaned to myself. Why did he have to be a gentleman and come up to the door? Why couldn't he have texted me he was here?
"Everybody just stay where you are. I'll go get him." I said walking backwards with my hand raised at caution.
Before swiftly opening the door, I took a deep breath. He flashes his winning smile, and I swear I could fall in love this man. Just not right now.
"Hey." I step outside of my house, and slightly close the door behind me.
"Hey, You look good." He greets me and surprisingly brings me into a hug. His strong arms hold me close against his warm body. I relax into his grasp, breathing him in, and getting lost in his cologne.
"You ready to go?" He ask whilst releasing me, and I already miss his touch.
"Uh not quiet." I say nervously.
"What do you mean?" He looks at me suspiciously.
"Well..um my family.." I began to ramble. "well really my mom, she kind of wants to meet you." I finish shyly, holding my hands together and wait for his response.
"That's it?" He asks casually.
"Yeah. Are you ok with that?" I ask shockingly.
"Yeah. I like meeting new people." He says with excitement
"You sure now." I ask for reassurance.
"Ren, I'll be fine." He holds me by my shoulders. My heart warms at the nick-name he gave me.
I give him a soft smile before placing my hands on his chest, and standing on my tippy toes to peck his cheek.
