Chapter 4

Detective Wattson’s P.O.V

The small plops of water tinkering around me. Reminding me of the just ending rain, this has succeeded in effectively making my job harder. The courtyard was beautiful in a kind of dusty way. One could only weep at the thought of it becoming a home to one of the most ruthless gangs in the state. Besides its great beauty, I could not help but wonder what it has seen over the past few days. For me to get called out here it must’ve been pretty horrible. Anybody could tell could easily tell something big happened here, just by standing in the foreboding atmosphere. Angry yellow tape with the words ‘Crime Scene Police Only,’ blared at my eyes. I itched my brown hair, hating the way I had to smooth it back into that old man style. My green eyes twitched.

“Name and ID,” demanded the cop watching the tape for pesky new reporters or people who aren’t authorised to appear here.

“Detective James Wattson,’ I said handing him my ID. After a moment of speculation, I had hoped that he would just let me through without any trouble like I usually get. My hopes were however short-lived.

“Aren’t you a little young to be a detective? 22” he sneered, probably hoping that he would get a promotion for finding someone that’s faking about being a detective. I sighed running a tired hand down my face.

“Look you stupid cop, if it wasn’t for how young I am you would have never thought to stop me.” The look on his face was priceless as he spluttered at me.

“I am a police officer and I demand respect from people like you!”

“Look, I don’t have time to play around with you. I was called here to look at an investigation that I really should be getting to. And so no, I won’t give some self-righteous pompous idiot any respect.” I said calmly. “So would you please give me my ID back and let me though?” I asked putting a steely look in my eye, that I reserve for situations like this. He continued to look flabbergasted at me, so I just took that as a yes and walked straight in, grabbing my ID as I went.

“Glad you’re here detective I’m Officer Gennings,” said a police officer with hollow eyes and hair greying at the tips. He stuck his hand out.

“Detective Wattson,” I said shaking his hand. “I came as fast as I could. Would have been here faster, but there were just a few complications that I took care of,” I smiled warmly at Gennings, letting my eyes flicker behind me to the tape cop. Tape cop visibly gulp and purposely looked away, trying as hard as possible to not get noticed.

“No worries,” he continued, “we have plenty of time and I have a lot of bodies to show you.” Gennings turned around, motioning for me to follow. “We believe that there was a gang feud as two of the largest reside here.” We came to a stop in front of a massive pile of bodies. Barely able to control my surprise at the sight in front of me, so I just settled for looking at it with wide eyes.

Some people were taking photos of the massacre, while others just looked as if they were trying not to be sick. Blood cover the places where the rain didn’t reach, which weren’t much but I was easy to imagine the place had the rains not come.

“Take your time and look at the bodies we’re not going anywhere. Talk to our man Price is you have any_questions.”
