-Brandon-

I quickly ducked and then swung to the side to avoid the blow that the wolf had tried to land on me. The attack had started suddenly, out of nowhere. One moment we were all doing our own thing and the next we were surrounded.

Rogues. Everywhere.

None of the pack had been prepared for an attack and now we were paying for that laziness. I growled as I spun and punched one of the rogues in side of its furry body. My knuckles were aching slightly, but I ignored the feeling. Rogues preferred to be in their wolf forms, they practically lived in them, almost never changing back. Even now I was debating changing into mine, half the pack was already in theirs.

But I decided against it, not for any particular reason beyond the fact that I was already in the middle of a fight and it would take too long to shift at this point. And, I suppose, I just preferred my human form.

I grunted as another one of the rogues slammed into me. Causing me to topple to the dirt with him landing atop of me. Not for long though. Grabbing his shoulders, I flung him around and then used my teeth to rip out his throat. Growling, I jumped to my feet and pounced on the closest rogue. This was going to be a long day.

-Matt-

When the dust cleared everyone was dead.

My surroundings were filled with dead rogues and fallen pack members.

My friends.... My pack.....

I have to find survivors. Turning, I spotted two figures walking my way. Slowly I step closer, trying to get a better sense if they are friend or fiend. Catching their sent I realize that they are Olly and Aaron; fellow pack members.

"Are there any other survivors?" I ask with a panicked voice, once I catch up with them.

"That's what we are trying to figure out," Aaron said.

"Hey guys! Over here!" We simultaneously spun toward the sound of the voice. It's Brandon, another one of my close friends. Well if you think about it the whole pack is very close, we have to be, we are a pack after all.

As I run over to him I notice that he is covered in blood, more so than the rest of us. Ryan is crouched beside him. A body by their knees.

Oh my god. It's the alpha.

No, I thought as Olly and Aaron caught up to me. I dropped into the dirt beside Ryan and Brandon and instantly assessed my alpha's condition. Josh was bleeding and was fatally injured. He was breathing, though, so that meant that there was still a chance, I hope.

He coughed, covering his lips with blood. "Boys," he coughed, his voice like gravel. "There is something I must tell you." He coughed again.

We said nothing.

"I have a daughter."

Wait... what? Since when did he have a daughter?

"She doesn't know about any of this. About us. Once our enemies catch wind that this pack has fallen, they will come to wipe out the little that has survived." He paused, his breathing ragged. And I could tell that he was coming down to his last minute.

"She knows nothing about what we are. You mustn't tell her, not until you have to." He had to stop and catch his breath. "Whatever happens, you must protect her. She is your new alpha."

Just like that our alpha succumbed to his wounds and a new alpha was crowned. A new alpha womb none of us knew. A new alpha that knew nothing about werewolves, about what we were and what she likely was.

This should be interesting.

-Astrid-

"I'm sorry for your loss, ma'am." The officer said as he slowly backed away from the door.

He didn't look sorry. Not in the slightest. He just looked like he wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. As if the news that he had brought wasn't tearing apart my world.

I remained standing there, stunned, until long after the officer had left. Staring at the now close door. Finally, what he had told me seemed to sink in and I suddenly collapsed to the floor, sobbing.

My dad was dead.

The only family I had left. Gone.

My mother died when I was no more than a toddler, leaving a heartbroken father with his confused two year old daughter and now all that was left was his heartbroken seventeen year old daughter... who was now, apparently, an orphan.

I haven't even seen my father in weeks, he had to go on some urgent business trip and had promised that he would call me as soon as he returned. But no phone call ever came. And now there would never be one.

Father was always gone on some work trip or another, or else he had to deal with an issue at work. He would be gone from days to weeks at a time but he would always come home. Except this time he wouldn't. Father was never coming home again.

It was that thought that left me sobbing on the floor for hours.

---

Hours past and I finally managed to pull myself off the floor and stumble my way to the bathroom. The glimpse of myself in the mirror had not been pretty. My light green eyes were red and puffy. My cheek stained with tears, my mascara running down my face, staining my tears black.

I forced myself to focus on individual tasks.

Splash some water on my face.

Wash off the remaining make up.

Brush through my hair.

Get undressed.

Shower.

Dry off.

Put on my pajamas.

Brush my teeth.

And finally pull myself into bed.

I snuggled deeper into the safety of my covers, in an effort to block out what my life had now become.
