Logan woke in the early hours of the morning, startled by the nightmares of his past. He rolled over and glanced at the alarm clock, 4 am, he groaned and lay back onto his back, staring wide eyed at the ceiling above. His mind raced through the events of last night, trying to piece it together. He came to one conclusion, Gambit’s empathy. He sighed and rolled over to look at the alarm once again, 4.10. He groaned once again and kicked the covers off himself, sitting bolt upright, swinging his legs over the side of the bed, resting his head in his hands for a few moments, progressing to standing and pulling on jeans and a t-shirt that lay on the end of his bed. He stretched and grabbed the keys to the bike from the bedside table, heading towards the door, picking up his jacket on the way out. He paced the halls of the dark mansion down towards the entrance and outside towards the parked vehicles. He swung himself over the bike, ran a hand through his untamed hair, placing the key in the ignition, starting up the engine with a low purr. He kicked the stand back to its stored position, took a sweeping glance back at the mansion before riding out of the gates and onto the long stretch of highway ahead. He looked straight ahead and let the wind ruffle his hair, it felt good. The sun was just rising above the horizon line, illuminating the empty highway ahead with streaks of red and orange glow. He breathed deeply tasting the fresh morning air on his tongue, he glanced at his watch, 4.45, Ackerman Inn would be still be open, his throat felt dry and he knew the ride wouldn’t take 10 minutes. He smiled and turned off to the left, increasing the speed as he reached the long narrow strip of road ahead. The wind pushed his open jacket back from his chest, letting the cool breeze seep through his t-shirt to his muscles. He couldn’t remember the last time there’d be a morning such as this. He increased his speed, a smile playing on his lips as the bar came into view, it looked exceptionally beautiful in the lighting. He began to slow his speed as he approached the bar; he pulled up outside and parked among the other few bikes. He switched off the ignition, swung himself slowly off the bike, and took one last searching gaze down the road he had just come before entering the bar.  He walked straight to the counter, pulling up a stool and ordering a round of shots. The barman smiled as he poured out the alcohol into the long line of shot glasses.

“Beautiful mornin’, eh?” He said cheerfully, whilst resuming to clean the empty glass in his hands.

“Yeah.”

“I hear there was a bike race downtown last night, caused quite a havoc.”

The two exchanged knowledgeable looks before letting out a quiet hum of laughter that seemed to fill the room with a cheerful atmosphere. Others in the bar looked towards the bar and began to chuckle also when they realised who was sitting at the counter. The room fell silent as the entrance swung open, the barman looked over and smiled, Logan kept his gaze forward, already knowing who had entered long before they took the seat directly to his right.

“Thought I migh’ find you here.” Gambit picked up one of shot glasses, downed it in one and slammed it back down onto the counter with a loud thud.

Everyone else resumed their casual conversations and the room began to fill with the quiet mumblings of early morning drunkards.

Logan grunted and pulled out a cigar from his shirt pocket, lighting it, before looking over to Gambit, with a casual expression.

“I know what you’re goin’ to say. No empathy. Just me.” He held Logans gaze intensely as a grin began to spread across his face.

He swallowed this information quickly, erasing all conclusions of this morning and raised one eyebrow in a questioning manner.

Gambit grinned like Cheshire cat, ran an admired glance down Logan’s chest, his muscles clearly defined through his tight fitting t-shirt before returning to his questioning gaze “Hard to resist mon amour.”
