Maria's POV -

I quickly swam to the cove as I realized I was late for lessons

I can't believe you slept in!
... Again!

I scolded myself.

I soon arrived at the cove swatting at my hair trying to get it to look like I hadn't just swam there from miles away.

"Okay we're only missing Maria" the teacher said shaking her head in dismay. This happened weekly so she wasn't surprised.

"Present!" I said shooting my hand up in the air trying not to yell.

The teacher rolled her eyes and wrote down that I was tardy.

Great

I thought to myself

Just great, dad's gonna kill me

The lesson soon started with vocal warm ups and I couldn't help but play with my hair and some corals.

This was boring, I was probably the best in the class. Even though I am only about 16.

I should probably explain to you what sirens and mermaids do.

So I'm half siren half mermaid, one of the only part sirens left and sirens lure men to their death, like the Greek mythology. And if you were wondering,
Yes, most of the Greek fairy tales are true.

There are demi-gods and Cyclopes, and that.

Get the gyst yet? Okay good.

So mermaid's live in peace under the sea hidden from human life. There is a hidden veil protecting most of the Greek mythology from them,

So if they saw a cyclops he would look like he had two eyes. Or a satyr, he would have human legs and no horns.

But with mermaids and sirens, well we aren't as well protected, we do live somewhat hidden though.

I had spaced out during the lesson and probably fallen asleep.

I woke up to someone patting me on the shoulder.

I woke up and looked at the teacher smiling innocently.

"Better not sleep in tomorrow" she warned Me and I nodded.

Stupid me, falling asleep and being late...
... Again!

I sighed and swam up to the surface and looked around at the peaceful waves and sighed.

My life will never be this peaceful

I thought to myself before swimming back down, I swam back home and into the castle.

Did I mention Poseidon is my dad? No? Well he is, I am sort of a demi-god I guess.

"Hey daddy" I said hugging him

"Hello sweet heart" he said hugging me back.

"How's the renovations going?" I asked him

We're doing renovations on the castle to let more merfolk's move in.

"Not bad, it would be better if half of my men weren't missing" he said in frustration

"I'm sorry daddy"

"Its fine honey." He said before continuing "so I heard from a little fish that someone has been falling asleep in class"

Crap

"heh, heh. Funny story" I laughed a little uncomfortable

He chuckled "its fine sweetheart, just dont do it again please." He said before kissing my forehead.

I smiled and swam off.

It was close to midnight and I swam up to my favorite rock to practice my song to lure sailors.

As I was singing I saw a boat in the distance.

This is my chance to actually practice my song on humans

I thought as I sang a little bit louder.

The boat came closer and closer, I was pretty well hidden. Ready to jump into the water if I needed to.

My beautiful teal tail sparkled in the moonlight as the boat came closer.

I kept singing and before I could do anything, hands grabbed me and pulled me into the boat.

I struggled and tried to get out.

I was bound and before everything went black I heard a small faint.

"Mate"

And everything went black.
