Everyone was silent for a good ten seconds. John's brow furrowed and his eyes widened at the same time, if that was possible. Casey leaned her back against the office door, her jaw hanging open. Finally, as if someone pressed the play button on a remote, Moriarty rose from the desk chair he was casually lounging in. He looked around at our shocked faces and nodded his head sarcastically, shoving his hands into the pockets of his grey trousers. "Seriously guys, did you miss me? It's been a while, and I just wanted to know if I was still in your thoughts," he said with eyes filled with fake concern.
"Why... Why are-" I began.
"-Why am I here? Well, I was hoping to meet with one of my employees. However, as you probably know, complications seemed to arise. So, instead of leaving and putting everything back in order myself, I decided to wait and see if I'll catch some of my dearest friends here. And look at the luck I had. The whole gang is here, well, except for everyone's favorite thief. No offense, Casey. Oh, and by the way, how are you? It's been a while since I saw you my dear," Moriarty paced around the room like he owned the place.
Casey tensed up. I could tell that she was trying to form words but I could literally feel the fear in her eyes. "I... umm...-"
"Oh no worries, I get it. Not getting enough from me so you turn to the side of the people that lock your friends up. That's starting to become common among you people. I understand,"
"Wait what?" Lestraude said, shooting Casey a surprised look.
"Oh, she didn't tell you?" Moriarty's eyes widened. "Funny enough, she worked for me. Yeah, she used to give me information on people I wanted to know about. She was even passing me some files on some people who owed me stuff. Then you just had to get involved and seduce her to join you in your hunt for little miss faked her death,"
"She stole files for you? But I thought she was working for Amy?" I thought aloud.
Casey looked at me with sorrowful eyes. "Well, It's more complicated than that," she said. "I mean, yeah, I was working for Amy. But-"
"But Amy was working for me," Moriarty shrugged. "Sorry to burst your emotional bubble, Sherlock,"
I had no response. How could this be true? She hated... no... she feared him. I never knew why. Was she... Was she scared of getting her secret out to me? Did she regret that she was double-crossing me? How could she do this? "Where is she?" I demanded.
"Oh, so forceful!" Moriarty said sarcastically. "You know, Sherlock, I've always-"
"I don't have time for you. Where is she?"
He hesitated for a second. He didn't expect my harsh mood towards him. His face was in a state of concentration, like he was deciding what to say next. He let out a small grin. "give it a second," he said as he stared right into my eyes.
Suddenly, the sound of police sirens blasted by. It sounded like about ten police cars were going by. Everyone looked around at each other, I kept my eyes on Moriarty. "Whelp, that's my cue," he shrugged. "Alright, Sherlock, you have a choice. I'm going to tell you that those cars are chasing Amy, who may have kidnapped your self-absorbed brother. You can either believe me and chase after her, not believe me and arrest me, or believe me but stay here and arrest me. Please surprise me,"
I never looked away from him. He was smart. He knew I would just make a compromise and leave Lestraude and Casey to arrest him while John and I went after Amy. He must have some sort of plan to capture or kill them if I leave them behind. There's no time to think, and no time to waste. "Let's go," I said under my breath.
"What?" Lestraude scoffed. "We are not letting him go free! You and John go and Casey and I-"
"No! He's smarter than that. I thought you were. He's not going to allow that option because he didn't offer it, and I am not going to risk what happens if we do that so you go and find us a rather fast car and track those police cars!"
There was a moment of silence. "Now!" I ordered.
I could here Casey open the office doors and Lestraude marched out with her following close behind. John stepped closer to me, "Come on, Sherlock. You want to go, so let's just go,"
I turned away from Moriarty, keeping my eyes on him for as long as I could. "'Till next time!" Moriarty grinned and waved.
I knew I was making a mistake leaving him, but I can't risk losing Amy. Not when I feel so close to the truth. I flipped my coat collar up against my neck and walked out of Mycroft's office, John close behind me. I could feel Moriarty's gaze on my back as the door to the office creaked closed.
John and I quickly weaved our way through the club. The old men lounging in their expensive armchairs silently gawked at us, they're not used to this much commotion here. We made our way outside; Lestraude and Casey were waiting for us in a grey car. Wasting no time, we hopped in the backseat and Lestraude quickly drove off. "Where is she going?" He asked as he began to pick up speed.
Casey was listening and looking through the police networks on Lestraude's phone. "Um, she's heading across the next bridge over the Thames-"
The tires of the car screeched as Lestraude suddenly rounded a sharp corner. The echoes of car horns echoed behind us. In front of us was the bridge. Cars were scattered along the side of the street because of the police cars that just passed, they were only a few hundred meters away. Lestraude wasted no time, he sped past the cars as they were just trying to pull back onto the road. "Casey, go into my contacts on my phone and call the one marked Rhodes!" Lestraude barked.
Casey didn't hesitate and quickly found the number. "Put it on speaker!" He said.
She set the phone on speaker mode and held the phone near him. The phone rang a couple of times, we were all silent with confusion. "Lestraude?" a man's voice came from the phone.
"Are you chasing a black van with Mycroft Holmes in it right now?" Lestraude practically yelled to the phone.
"Um, yeah. Why, sir?" The voice responded.
"There is a grey car coming up behind your squad, don't do anything about it,"
"Why, si-"
"Because it's me, you idiot! We are following you!"
"Right, sorry sir. Wait, who's we?"
"Who do you think?" He yelled as he snatched the phone from Casey and hung up the call.
We remained silent in the car, mainly out of fear of Lestraude. He caught up with the police cars and joined the chase. The drive was actually lasting quite a while. The black van weaved its way through cars and streets, going farther out of the busy city. Soon, the buildings started to become more spread out and old. I looked out of the window, and saw a looming shape. It was mostly rectangular, but there were gaping holes everywhere. As we got closer, the shape became bigger. The walls of it were made of brick, but it was barley noticeable with all the dust that settled on it's surface. My heart sank and my stomach turned. The roaring sounds of car engines and sirens faded away from me. I never thought I would be back here, I don't want to be here. My brain was filled with the sound of explosions and gunshots. I don't want to go in there. I dont want to go back! Echos of a helicopter muffled my thoughts. Of all the places, it had to be here? One final gunshot shot me out of the memory. The black van turned and drove straight into the warehouse's broken garage and hid in darkness. The police cars slowed down and parked around the large door to surround it. Lestraude parked just behind the semi circle of cars. The officers were already in formation with guns at the ready, pointing into the shadow of the warehouse. Lestraude jumped out of the car and went over to an older looking officer, who I assume to be Rhodes. Casey and john cautiously got out of the car and started walking towards the police. I remained still, staring at the warehouse. This warehouse, possibly the only place I'm actually afraid of. The place where it all started. The place where I saw Amy die.
I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. This is where all this started, so it must be where it ends.
