Chapter two:
Our eyes meet. She doesn't look sad, but she doesn't look happy either. Maybe she is just hidding her emotions. I wonder if that's a strategy. No. Katniss is not that kind of girl, starting to plot the other tributes death and searching for ways to get attention. She probably doesn't want to seem weak. I turn my head and see lots and lots of delicious treats. I've never seen that much food in my entire life. I go sit next to Katniss on a velvet couch. It's really silent so i decide to ask if she's ever met Haymitch, our mentor. She doesn't answer. "Look Katniss, he won this thing once." still no answer. I finally say "If you don't want to talk, i understand, but I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a little bit of help". Our eyes meet and I immediatly look somewhere else. I remember those eyes...
Flashback
It was a dark rainy day. I saw Katniss outside in the rain. I have to find a way to help her. I take a piece of bread. I get closer to the oven and burn it. That way mother wouldn't want it and I could give it to Katniss. I go outside and throw some old bread to the pigs. Mother comes outside and starts yelling at me "What kind of baker are you!? You can't even bake bread without burning it! You're only wasting our money! You are a disgrace to this family!" and then she slaps me. I feel my cheek burning. She goes in the house. I see that Katniss is looking at me. Those eyes, those beautiful grey eyes. Now is the right time. I throw her the burnt bread and I go inside the bakery. I watch her from my window as she grabs the bread and runs away.
Suddenly, a door opens and Haymitch comes in. He says "Congratulations" and walks towards the bottles of alcohol. He pours some in his glass and sits in front of me. "So when do we start?" I ask him. "Whoa, slow down" he says. I insist " You are our mentor. You're supposed to give us advice on how to get sponsors, survive"... "Mentor you say? Ok humm... Embrace the probability of your imminent death and that there's nothing I can do to save you." he says. "So why are you here then?" says Katniss. "The refreshements" answers Haymitch. I stand up and tell him that he drank enough and try to take his glass. I feel pressure on my chest until i realise it's his foot holding me back on my chair. He says "You made me spill my drink. I'll go finish it in the other room then". He turns in circles until he finds his way. "He's going to come around. I will go talk to him." I say while I leave the room and hear Katniss say that there's no use.
