Once upon a time...

There once was a bountiful kingdom with an admirable king and queen, with seven very handsome and incredible princes. Each one of those princes had a very unique power known throughout the kingdom. Everything was peaceful until one day, a stranger came to the castle.

This stranger proclaimed the princes as demons that should be feared, for he had a vision of the fair kingdom in flames as the seven destroyed everything and everyone in sight. As fear rose in the hearts of the people, the king had no choice but to hide the princes away.

No one knew what had become of the princes or where they had gone...until one day...

Yuni's POV~

I woke up to the sun shining brightly through the window. This was going to be just like any other day. At least that's what I thought.

It did start out normal: I got up and dressed, did my morning routine - starting by going out to the barn to feed the animals. They scarfed down their food in a matter of minutes, and I continued on with my other chores. I gathered their milk and eggs and went to the garden to finish grabbing the ingredients for breakfast. After setting the table with our humble breakfast for two, I called out for Papa.

"Papa! Breakfast is ready," I called from the kitchen. Normally, Papa would walk right in after announcing that food's ready. But today he didn't. "Papa!" I called again, and started off to find him.

"Papa?" There was no reply from his bedroom. I opened the door slightly and peered in. Not there. I continued my search through the house to his study. "Papa?" I asked gently, while knocking on the slightly ajar door.

"I'm here, Sweetheart." He replied, glancing at me and then right back to what he was doing.

"What are you working on so early in the morning?" I asked as I walked to his side.

"I just don't know where to put the last pieces," Papa said, brow furrowed in frustration with a little music box. It was beautiful. Scenery of a stream passing through a field full of flowers was delicately painted on the lid, the centerpiece was a metal rose as the handle. On the inside was a beautiful lady covered in even more multicolored roses. Papa has been working on this for a while now, always trying to perfect the little box, adding the many layers of color to the difficult clockwork mechanics hidden inside.

"Pass me those few gears, please," Papa gestured to the side, eyes not leaving the music box. I picked them up and handed them to him. He used his tools to place them, saying "Almost there," then after a moment, "...and finished." Lifting the music box, Papa turned the key a few times, making the machine come to life.

The song that played was a lullaby that Papa used to sing to me every night when I was little. Hearing it again made me remember. A smile rose to our lips when both Papa and I started to sing the melody.

Some Time Later~

I had just finished sweeping the floors when I heard Papa call me from the hall.

"Yuni?"

"Yes, Papa," I said, coming out of my room. "Is there something you need help with?"

"Yes, dear. Could you go into town for me?" He asked, holding up a piece of paper between his fingers. I knew immediately that it was a shopping list. The nearest town was miles from here; our little farm was a ways off from anyone, and Papa wasn't getting any younger.

"Sure! While I'm out, I can find another book. I have finished the one from last week," I said, with a smile. I turned to grab some things from my room and then headed back towards my father.

He pulled me into his embrace when I got closer to him. "Remember to be back by nightfall. And be careful of the woods."

"Yes Papa," I replied, breaking the hug after a few moments to leave. I opened the front door, glanced back at my father, gave him another reassuring smile, then turned and shut the door behind me.

Starting down the path towards town, I recalled the book in my hands. It was a harrowing tale of a prince who saves his princess from her horrible dungeon. A literal fairy tale - it was filled with dragons, witches, and other magical creatures that threatened the pair at every turn. And when everything was said and done, it was the perfect end - they lived happily ever after... Reading these kinds of stories were fun, but I eventually had to face the reality that none of those things were ever going to happen to a lowly farm girl like me. I entertained myself by daydreaming about what sort of book I would get this week.

In the midday sunlight, shining through the leaves onto the path, I thought of the shortcut near here that would get me to town faster. But when I turned to take it, I noticed that the scenery was ever so slightly different than I remembered - and not just because of the changing weather. A while down the road, I saw a large cottage a ways from the path, mildly obscured by the treeline. I couldn't help but think to myself that it was impossible for a cottage that size to have been built since I passed this spot last week.

It piqued my curiosity. I crept close to the cottage, hoping to stay out of sight of the owners. The build reminded me of a nobleman's summer home, but there was a stark difference from the normal noble homes.. There was this strange colored light appearing from the windows of the second floor. I was just about to turn around and continue towards town, putting the whole thing out of my mind, when a snapped twig from behind startled me, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up. I turned around slowly.

I saw nothing... It was probably a rabbit, I told myself. Cautiously, I started to head back to the shortcut when I saw out of the corner of my eye a man, a handsome one at that, staring at me. I did what any logical person would do, and I ran.

But of course, I was not fast enough. The man grabbed my wrist and pulled me back towards him. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" He said in a deep voice that made me look up at his face. He was also looking down at me, but I stayed silent. "Who are you and how can you see this place?!" The man questioned me again, raising his voice in obvious irritation.

Stammering, I tried to explain myself. "I-I-I was just passing through, so if you could let me go-"

"Answer me!" He yelled, making my body shake in fear.

I gulped. His eyes were piercing into mine. I was trying to force something else to escape my mouth to get out of this situation, but the man tightened his grip on my wrist and pulled me towards the cottage.
