Author's POV~
"I can answer some of your questions," Yoongi said. "Who wants to go first?" A shocked look ran across everyone's faces. "I could let you guess, but why waste your time? You would all come to the same conclusion - I did it. I took her memories."
"Hyung! Why on earth would you take her memories?!" Jungkook raised his voice, wary of what his answer would be.
"Father ordered it." Yoongi casually said, while getting up and leaning on the chair with a subtly nervous energy.
"Why would he do that?" Taehyung asked.
Yoongi eyeballed Tae, almost like he was trying to show his reluctance to the order. "We were about to go into hiding. We couldn't have protected her."
Jungkook yelled, "WHAT! We could've- no would have protected her!" Jimin cautiously came to his side, and attempted to calm his younger brother down.
"We were kids! We could barely protect ourselves at that time. Especially when we were just coming into our powers and learning how to use them," Yoongi yelled back.
"But you still did it! You could have refused!" Jungkook countered.
"I did it to protect her!" Yoongi spat. "Father got news that we were being hunted, before the man came. He said that they may use Dumpling against us. He said it was safer for her to not know us."
Needing to sedate the tension in the room, Namjoon said, "But that's not all that happened, was it?"
Yoongi hesitated, "No."
"What else happened?" Jin asked, finally piping up.
"I really don't think I should say," Yoongi looked down and started picking at his nails.
"Tell us," Namjoon urged.
"No," Yoongi said firmly. He stopped picking, but kept his eyes down.
"Hyung!" Jimin was pleading for Yoongi to just cut the tension boiling over in the room.
Taking his time, Yoongi glimpsed at his brothers around him. They were all sitting looking at him. It was hard to hold the truth from them, but lying was out of the question. "There was an attack. Right before we were going to leave. Dumpling's mother got caught up in it."
"No... Not Auntie..." Jin whispered, taking a seat. Namjoon moved behind him and placed his hands on his shoulders to comfort him.
Yoongi continued despite the pain resurfacing. "Dumpling and her father left soon after we did. It killed me that I had to do it to her, but I wanted to save her from the pain and sorrow she would have had to deal with." The memory came to him, like it happened yesterday.
Yoongi's POV and Flashback~
On their front step, Uncle, grief stricken, was holding Dumpling. She shook in his arms and sobbed. A sharp pain twisted my heart; this was painful to see. Nevertheless, I was here for a reason, and to help her sorrow as well. Dumpling saw him through her teary eyes. She squirmed until Uncle put her down and she ran to hug me, as if she was afraid something would happen to me, too.
"Oppa, Mama is gone!" She sobbed even harder.
I rubbed her back to try and calm her down. Then just saying what I thought would help her stop crying, I said , "Shh- I got you. You know she is not really gone, we just can't see her right now."
Dumpling sniffed, rubbing her eyes to look at my face. "What do you mean?"
"She will always be with us, she's in our hearts. She will always be there when you need her."
"Really?"
"Really. Hey listen, Uncle is missing her too. You need to make sure he's happy, okay?
Dumpling thought about that for a second. And accepting the logic, gave a reluctant, "Okay..." And then quickly adding, "Oppa? What is going to happen now?"
"That is up to you and Uncle, but that's another reason that I'm here."
"Hm?"
I wiped away her remaining tears. "I'm going to help you sleep, okay?" I quickly glanced up at Uncle, and he nodded his head in response, knowing what would entail. I looked back at Dumpling. I didn't want her to forget about us but it was safer for her, so there really was no choice. I put my hand on her forehead and said, "Close your eyes."
She did, but she started silently crying again. I didn't want to do this to her, but I need to. I closed my eyes and chanted the spell. A tear slipped down my face as Dumpling's body went limp in my arms. Uncle came over to pick her up and take her inside the house. When he got to the door, he turned around and gave me one last nod as goodbye. I nodded back and he went inside.
Author's POV~
Yoongi spaced back into the present. He finished with, "I don't know what happened once they left, but they could have had the same spell cast over them that was placed over us."
Silence filled the air- no one said anything, they couldn't. The wonder they had felt for years over whatever had happened to Dumpling had been replaced by a feeling of dread. Their brother had helped take a person they all loved away from them. Orders or no, that was just unacceptable.
Jungkook couldn't process it, he didn't want to. All he knew was that his brother had betrayed them, betrayed him. They all knew that Jungkook loved Dumpling, considering how he'd been the butt of jokes for years, and now Yoongi was saying that he was the one to cause her memory loss? He'd spent years wondering how she was, where she was, and what she was doing. And she didn't even know he existed!
It was just too much. He needed some air. He felt like he was suffocating from even standing near Yoongi. In a trance of rage, he turned and walked back out the door, slamming it as he marched on. He heard one of his hyungs shout out after him, but his mind was too foggy to catch who it was. As if the wave of emotion had taken complete control of his actions, he walked faster. After a minute he was jogging, and then running. Barely registering the rapidly setting sun, he was sprinting down the road. He didn't have a particular destination in mind, but all he knew was that he wouldn't be in that house.
