PART-2

Dishevelled she sat up and ran a glance around the quaking cabin room. Her fiery brown eyes were wide open now and her expression was turned up in an irritable frown. Despite having just woken up her eyes were alive and alert.  I expected her to jump down from her bed and accompany me to the exterior of the cabin pronto but I should have known better. This was Lillian Linton. Expecting sensible behaviour from her for once was synonymous to giving a kick to your backside!  She was looking at me wide eyed as if I had grown three red devilish horns and a red tipped tail was protruding from my behind!

Bah! This female!

Striding forward  I moved towards her bed and grabbing her arm hurled her out of the luxury. With the coldest glare right from the interior of the arctics I directed my command at her  'Get up, I said Mr.Linton! Now!' .

Still looking at me wide eyed I dragged her out of the cabin and out into the deck. Her body was heavy and resisting as I drew her towards the deck but the hand clasped in mine was warm. Soft. If it werent't for the fearful storm and the dozens of people screaming their lungs out the warmth of her hand would have almost led me into believing that we were safe . Untouchable . For some reason even now in this gruesome tempest holding her hand, the touch of her skin on mine was anchoring me up and encouraging to go on. It felt like a safe haven, like caressing the surface of water on a sunny July morning with the breeze brushing your neck-

No time for irrational thoughts! Since when have you become so astoundingly poetic!

Entering the deck the sight that hit me made bile rise up in my stomach and made my throat burn with the tangy acid. The deck was choked full of screaming people resembling corpses roused out of their sleep. Mustering up all my strength I forced my expression into one of cold superiority and infinite strength .

I wouldn't sink down to be a depraved emotional mess! There was no reason at all to waste time on such frivolities!

My thoughts were abruptly cut off when a wave slammed down on us and threw us back against the cabin wall. The metal hit my back hard and made my spine stiffen but my hand didn't loosen its grip on hers . Ofcourse not. When we finally resurfaced she was stumbling around and coughing out muddy sea water and bits of food on the deck. The sight for some reason made my heart clench. It was reminscent of the baffling emotions rocking my being.

'Steady. Its all right i've got you.' I said. For some reason my voice came out strained and softer than I had intended.

Still coughing she looked down while my gaze snapped to the captain's cabin where a a short and rather roundish officer with an expression of infinite tomfoolery and fear was fumbling with the door. Raising his hands he stood up on the cargo and opened his mouth to speak. The words he next said sent a blast of ice shooting through my veins. He was desperately running around asking everyone to calm down. He was wasting my time with his nonsensical pushy words! Putting as much ice in my voice as I could manage I strode forward and forced the words out -

'And how do you plan to get a storm under control? Are you st.Peter? Can you close the sluice gates of heaven and stop lightning from striking us down?' I demanded with cold ferocity the anger buzzing and thrumming in my blood.

His eyes flickered to me and involuntarily flinched back with the ferocity of my gaze and wandered to the questioning fearful gazes of the passengers. Gulping he straightened out and again in a meagre effort tried to calm the crowd but I had had enough. This man if I had encountered somewhere else would already have been facedown in a pool of his own blood but in the current circumstances I was in no position to do that. Still, he should have known better than to waste my time! Putting all my anger in my glare I asked him 'How many lifeboats are on in this vessel?'
