The Next Day

Last night, it took a little while for me to get to sleep after what happened with Rebecca. George said that since all the other girls had roommates, I'd be the only one in my room for a little while, or at least until he could figure something out. I ended up riding with George to the first rehearsal for the Knockouts since he didn't want me to be in a cab alone. We were the last ones to arrive, and it was very clear that everyone else was wondering where Rebecca was. And as I sat down in my seat, George went to the front of the room and took a deep breath before speaking. "Hey, guys. From the look on everyone's faces, you've probably noticed that we have one less person here today. Unfortunately, Rebecca Moss has had to leave the competition due to a death in the family. It's certainly a huge blow to the team. Rebecca was an amazing singer, and she will be missed by all of us," George paused for a moment to let everyone process what he just said. "But, the show must go on. It's the Knockouts and as tradition, I am leaving the song choice up to you. Now, here is my challenge to you. Close your eyes. I want you to picture the most important moment in your life. Your challenge for the Knockouts is to choose the song that you think best describes that moment. And when you perform that song, I want you to put your heart in it. I have high expectations for all of you, so don't let me down. You got that?" he asked. We all nodded. "Good. Now, just like last time, I've put all of your names inside a glass bowl. And whoever's name I draw out of it gets to rehearse with me first. So, let's find out who that is," he said as he went to the bowl and drew a slip of paper. And when he showed us the paper, I groaned. I was going first. Again. "You have got to be kidding me!" I exclaimed. George smiled. "Twice in a row, that's unfortunate! Well, come on, then," he said. And as I followed him to the rehearsal room, I knew exactly what song I was going to sing. "So, what song have you chosen?" he asked. "I've chosen "Titanium" by David Guetta and Sia," I said. "Oh, that's a good one. Why did you choose it?" he asked. "I thought it best described the moment when my parents disowned me. I was absolutely heartbroken, but I didn't let that get in the way of my singing," I said. "Exactly. So, let's hear it," he said. "I'm planning on playing the piano, as well," I said. "Go for it," he said as he stepped aside to let me pass. Once I was at the piano, I began to play.

You shout it out,
But I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud, not saying much
I'm criticized but all your bullets ricochet
Shoot me down, but I get up

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium

Cut me down
But it's you who'll have further to fall
Ghost town and haunted love
Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones
I'm talking loud not saying much

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
I am titanium

Stone-heart, machine gun
Firing at the ones who run
Stone heart loves bulletproof glass

You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium

When I finished singing, George smiled. "That was great! One thing, though. I could honestly get a little more emotion from you. Remember what I told everyone: Put your heart into the song. Other than that, you did great," he said. "Thanks," I said as we walked out. "You know, I'm planning getting the team together to go see a movie after rehearsals. You want to come?" he asked. "What movie did you pick?" I asked. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," he said. "Dude, count me in! I love Harry Potter! What time do you want me to be down in the lobby?" I asked. "I'd say about 6:00 pm so we'll have time to have dinner. The movie starts at 8:00 so that will give us plenty of time to eat," he said. "Sounds good to me. Well, have fun with the rest of rehearsals," I said. "Will do," he said as I went back to my seat. I could not wait for tonight!
