intro: an encounter
"I made you this." She hands him a colorful CD case with a small notebook taped to the back. The words in the notebook were songs that reminded her of him or little things about him; like his eyes or his goofy grin all hidden under a yellow post-it not with a note written on it.
"Cool, thank you!"
He smiles that smile that changed her life and she smiles at him, because she finally met the boy who made her life worth while.
"You're welcome," she says to him, praying her voice doesn't start shaking.
"Did you want a picture or anything?" he asks as he sees his tour manager waving for him to join the rest of the band on the bus.
She thinks about for a split second before nodding eagerly. "If it's not a hassle?"
He smiles down at her, their height difference only a few inches. "It's not at all."
They pose for a picture together, which her best friend takes for them and then he keeps his arm around her. "Thank you for the CD, I'm going to listen to it on our drive," he says, gesturing to the tour bus.
She smiles widely up at him, trying to keep her cool. "That sounds great."
He chuckles at her obvious nerves and surprises her with a hug. He hugs her tight, rubbing circles on her back and she squeezes him tightly when she realizes what is going on. "Alright, well, I have to go, but hopefully I'll see you at a show or something?" he says when he pulls away from her.
She nods quickly. "I've gone to every one so far."
He raises his eyebrows, impressed with her dedication. "Well, then I guess I will be seeing you around."
She smiles and nods as he starts walking backwards towards the bus, CD in hand. He waves goodbye to the two girls with his free hand before disappearing onto the black tour bus.

dear luke,
i've made you this mixtape over the course of the three of the years i've been a fan of you and your band. it's not much. they're just songs that reminded me of you or songs i thought you would like. if you haven't noticed, there are two cds in here; one with "his" on it and one with "hers" on it. the one with "his" on it is all the songs that remind me of you and the one with "hers" on it is all the songs that i really like a lot, probably a little too much for my own good. i figured that you might be interested in knowing something about the girl who gave you a mixtape instead of a stuffed penguin because you probably have crap loads of them. but you don't have to listen to it, it's fine, i won't be offended. i'm kind of boring anyway.
i know it's a stupid gift because you get plenty of gifts that are much better than this, but i wanted to give you something different; something you'll hopefully remember or even keep.
but, if you do listen to either cd, please read the notebook. it's all in order and labeled so you don't get confused.
hope you like it. thank you for everything. i love you, a lot.
thinking of you,
ellie carter
Luke looks up from his lap, his band mates were engaged in conversation about what they were getting for dinner. He gathers the CD case and notebook from his lap, sticking the note back on the case, since he doesn't really care what they eat.
"I'm going to be back in the lounge," he announces. They all nod, acknowledging him before he leaves the front of the bus.
Once he's out of sight, he closes the door to the back lounge so nobody bothers him. He sits himself down on the cushioned seating area and opens up his laptop he grabbed on the way back. He pushes a button to turn it on and then focuses his attention on the CD case.
He carefully undoes the tape and takes the small notebook from the back of the case off, opening the CD case. The case is one of those fancy ones made for two CDs. The CD in the first holding says his in cursive writing, written in the blue- the color if his eyes. He opens the second CD holder and finds the second CD with hers written in the same curly handwriting, but in a deep green color- the color of her eyes.
The vibrant colors make him wonder if she is an artist because most people don't own such marker colors. But he pushes his pondering to the side and closes the second holding and then pops out the first CD. He puts the CD into his computer and opens up iTunes.
He searches for his headphones and groans when he realizes he left them in his bunk. He sighs, placing his laptop in the space next to him, along with the CD case and notebook before he gets up to get his headphones.
When he returns, the CD is already loaded into his computer. He frowns when he sees the tracks don't have names, but it adds to his curiosity. Grabbing the notebook he flips open the first page and smiles when he sees more colorful ink. Another note is written on the page along with a song title and artist written at the bottom in all caps in bold, black ink.

dear luke,
as you can see your mixtape doesn't have the track names listed (neither does mine). i wanted to make it a surprise because i wanted to listen to each song, not just the ones you knew before hand. so without further ado, here's track one on your mixtape. (i would suggest you put the whole thing on your ipod/phone if you're going to listen to it to make things easier for you.) the first song is just an instrumental intro track. it's one of my favorites and i have a feeling you'll like it, too, because i know you like this band.
hope you like it. i love you, a lot.
thinking of you,
