The Children Denied

A lot of people who come out with a sexual orientation other than hetorsexual often discover this some where along their teenage years.

This often results in the ignorant comment "It's just a faze you'll grow out of it."

This is most commen with those who identify as bisexual. Because they then end up with either one gender romantically people tend to say "Ha see your not really bisexual you are *gay/strait* !"

If we go back even further we have an even worse for of ignorance towards little children whom gender typically is nothing at all.

"Why do you let your son wear dresses you are going to MAKE him gay!" How many people have heard this at least once before?

My nephew has an older sister and he LOVES wearing dresses too! He does not like his hair putting up however, but refuses to have it cut.

He does not act "camp" or "gay" in any way. He is too young to even care for that anyway.

To him he is just playing like his sister, pink is just another colour, toys are toys.

Maybe he will grow up gay maybe he won't. What is certain is that right now all he is is a child who cares less of your opinion than you could ever understand whether it's positive or not. He really does not care!

What I am trying to express by explaining this behaviour is how children are born with this attitude and some are shaped and moulded into a negative ignorant one. They are not born with it.

Children should be treated with more respect. I feel that they are often viewed as subhuman because many adults believe children to be 'stupid'.

When the reality is ignorant adults are more 'stupid' than the loving care free child.

Teenagers feeling about who they are, are so often invalidated because 'it's just hormones'. Yet when they grow into adults they still feel the same or more understanding of themselves.

Sometimes it's a faze sometimes it's not neither should be mocked or looked down upon.

Children are more knowledgeable of the world and how it ought to work than those pompous ignorant adults who consistently invalidate them as stupid.

We could all learn a lot from children.
