I'm Positive

It happened. Joel and I had sex.

It's Christmas morning and I'm sat on the edge of the bath, the door locked, texting Ola and telling her everything.

We woke up early and it just happened.

It was everything I wanted it to be and more and now I've got this fuzzy feeling in my chest and I feel like a sixteen year old when her crush replies to her text.

He's gone back to sleep, which means that I can have a little moment to myself and squeal with excitement.

I thought I'd ruined the moment when I asked the dreaded STI question, but he only laughed and told me he got checked before the trip 'just in case'. So did I to be honest...

No way. Oh my goodness. I'm sorry but have to talk later, James' nephews just arrived. Xx

I smile at Ola's response, glad to see that she's happy for me. We must sound like teenagers.

There's a knock at the door. "Calla? Are you having a bath?" Fuck. I quickly turn on the bath taps.

"Yeah. Why?"

"Ugh, I wanted to do presents!" Joel groans childishly.

Presents! I totally forgot!

Joel is hard to buy for. Very hard to buy for. I managed to get hold of some tickets for Reading Festival. I bought two so he could take a mate. Festivals aren't really my scene.

"I'll be quick!" I call back feeling eager and excited.

Joel hands me the present. An oblong shape which dips in the middle.

We're sat by the Christmas tree; the smell of pine and comforting smoke from the fire filling the air with festive scents.

I tear open the wrapping to see a sleek matte white ukulele. "You didn't!" I gush. I had seen this exact ukulele in the cute little music store in town and was oogling it for ages.

Joel nods, "Turn it over."

I do as he says.

I scream.

"We did an episode of Bring the Noise with David Tennant. I bumped into him at the NTAs and he asked about you. Then we went all the way to the shop and he signed it!" Joel grins, pulling me in for a hug.

I'm in shock. My fingers brush over his autograph. David Tennant. Oh my.

"My present is going to seem shite now." I blush, passing him the envelope.

I was wrong. "I've always wanted to go! Thank you!" He kisses me gently and I kiss him back.

I stroke the ukulele and position my left hand on the fretboard, carefully strumming some chords as if it has feelings and putting to much pressure on the strings might hurt it.

It's a girl. I'm going to call her... Willow.

"What do you think?" Joel shoves his phone in my face, proudly displacing an Instagram post he just uploaded:
