The New Teacher

Today was the day, the day to meet the new teacher replacing my old teacher. I did my usual thing, woke up, had a shower, got ready for school and had my breakfast before getting in the car. When we got to school I went straight to the class room, I wanted to see before anyone else, what this teacher was like. When I got there, the door opened immediately and this lady looked at me and said, "You must be Jae, why don't you come in and we can have a bit of a chat before class starts." I walked in and everything looked so different. The walls are no longer plain, they're full of colour and enjoyment. I sat down beside her desk and she said to me, "Your previous teacher has filled me in on your work ethics and behaviour but I just want to tell you, I am here to help you exceed. If I see you're failing, or need the extra help I will help you, all I want from you is the same respect towards me and the other students. Do you think you can do that for me?" I replied, "Yes miss." She motioned me to leave the classroom and join the others.

As I exited the classroom, a couple of the boys were waiting outside the door, "What was that about? Did you think if you got in to meet her before the rest of us she might actually like you? Haha what a joke!" They shoved me aside and walked past. I turned around and looked behind me and I saw my teacher looking straight at me. The look on her face though was what surprised me the most. She wasn't laughing and she wasn't smiling. She had the look of horror on her face, with her mouth wide open. I turned and walked away and found a shady spot under a tree while waiting for class to start.

When it was time for class to start,  the teacher made everyone wait outside in one straight line until she told us to go inside. The teacher walked back inside and she had someone with her, when I looked inside to see who it was, it was the principle. What could they have been talking about? The teacher came back outside and told everyone to quietly go inside and sit at their desks without talking and look straight towards the board. The principle and the teacher were standing directly at the front where everyone could see and hear them. The principle started off speaking by saying, "It has come to my attention, that there is bullying going on in this classroom. I am not going to mention any names or how it has come to my attention but I want you all to know it is to stop immediately and we will be keeping a close eye on everyone and anyone caught doing such things will be in serious trouble!" The principle and the teacher continued for a couple of minutes talking about the issue and what they expect from each and everyone of us in the class.

When they had finished, the teacher and the principle both walked outside and had a private conversation between them both. While they were outside, almost everyone had turned and looked at me with very angry looks in their eyes and on their faces and quickly turned around when the teacher walked back inside to start teaching.

It was time for recess and everyone ran out so quickly I was the only one left in the classroom. When I got outside, I grabbed my bag and walked down the stairs and down the hallway to find somewhere quiet to sit. A couple of the boys walked up to me and said, "If you think your little stunt this morning is going to stop us, think again. It's only the beginning." Then before the walked off laughing, they grabbed my bag and thew it in the trash can.

I went over and gathered my belongings and found somewhere else to sit except this time, it was away from where everyone else was sitting. I found a nice, quiet, shady spot to sit where no one would bother me and I stayed there until recess was over.

When we got back into class, the teacher announced that she was giving everyone an assignment that was due the following week and we all had to pair up. This just made me sick to the stomoch as everyone hated me. Everyone was paired up except for me which everyone laughed about. The teacher asked if I was going to be okay to do the assignment on my own and I said, "Yes, I will be fine." It was the end of the day and when I got back to my nan and pops, I started the assignment straight away and finished it by that night as well as my homework.

The next day I got to school early and I went and saw the teacher and asked if I could submit my assignment and homework early as they were already complete. The teacher looked surprised as she didn't expect anyone to finish these so early. She accepted my work early anyway. Little did I know she was going to make an announcement when class began.

When everyone was in class and seated in their seats, she got to the front of the class and was holding what looked like my assignment. Her announcement was, "This morning, Jae came to me with not only his homework completed but also his assignment completed aswell. This is the sort of work I would like to see from everyone." I wish she hadn't of done that as now everyone was looking at me.

Come recess, the same boys as well as a couple of other people walked up to me and said, "You think you're so much better than the rest of us and so much smarter but so you know, you're never going to get anywhere in life. You've got no parents, and no one cares about you one bit." Once again, they threw my stuff in the trash can and called me garbage boy as they watched me gather up my belongings.

It was coming towards the end of the year again and my mother not knowing what had been going on went out and purchased a whole bunch of Christmas cards and candy canes and forced me to write a card out for everyone and give to everyone as part of the holiday spirit. The next day I got to school and I wasn't going to give the cards out but I did anyway and everyone laughed at the fact that I actually did. Most of the kids in my class just threw them out as they left the room at the end of the day which honestly,  I didn't expect anything less to happen. While all the other kids got in their cars with their parents I quietly sat and waiting for my nan and pop to pick me up. Only then was I sitting there wondering what was to come when we returned...
