Phil's POV

It was a chilly September's day in Rawtenstall, England and the joy and happiness of the long gone summer was perfectly represented in the piles of decomposed leaves lying out on the pavement. Phil had his headphones in and was listening to Muse. He loved. Muse, it was his favourite band of all time. The teen was completely absorbed in his own thoughts but then stopped. He looked up to see his school looming above him.

He took a deep breath, the first day back to school was always the worst, now especially as he was going into Year 11. His mum had been pressuring him to work extra hard so he could ace his GCSEs like Martyn did. Phil sighed, he was always being compared to his older, smarter brother. He hated it.

He looked around the school grounds to see everyone rushing up to each other. Greeting each other. Hugging. Laughing. Smiling. Phil grunted, he wished that one day he too could have a friend. But that was never going to happen to him.

He got to his classroom early and put his stuff down on the desk right at the back, next to the window. It was good if he sat next to a window. That way he wouldn't have to make eye contact with anyone. It was for the best. Phil looked down at all the people still rushing about outside and let his thoughts carry him away.

"Daydreaming again, are we, Lester?" Phil's tutor, Mr Smith mocked, Phil could hear his classmates sniggering and felt his cheeks glow red. Suddenly the door swung open to reveal a boy standing there, panting.

"Late on our first day now are we Howell?" Mr Smith questioned. The boy let out a small "sorry sir" before collapsing in the seat next to Phil.

Phil, shocked by someone sitting next to him, went back to awkwardly staring out of the window. He was snapped out of his thoughts by a cough and turned round to see the boy staring at him. Phil gasped silently, the boy next to him was beautiful. He had hair like Phil's but swept in the other direction. He had dimples that were amazing. They were adorable. But the best thing about him, his eyes. The boys eyes were a chocolate brown colour. Dark enough to make you melt into them but it still had reflections from the sun. He could just stare at them all day. He was pulled away from these beautiful eyes because he heard the new boy speak. "Hi, my name is Dan, nice to meet you." So that's what his name was.

Phil smiled to himself. Dan was nice. Maybe he could actually get a friend. He was doubtful but maybe, just maybe it could happen.

A/N this is my first fanfic so sorry if it's badly written. The storyline will hopefully get more exciting throughout. Also sorry for the very short chapter ^o^
