She's the One

Based off of a picture I saw on instagram that apparently had James' aunt comment about something he told her in San Diego followed be the words "she's the one" and I could not stop myself from writing something. As a reminder, this is just fiction and my own imagination and this is in no way anything more than fanfiction.

San Diego, 2016

"I don't want to be with you, James," Nadine snarled. "Hindi na kita mahal."

Nadine unwrapped the ring he had given her and dropped it by his side. She sharply pivoted and began to walk out.

James grabbed her arm and hugged her from behind, crying into her hair.

"Please, don't leave me," he begged.

Nadine unwrapped his arms from her waist and shoved him. "Ang kulit mo! Sabi ko ayoko na sayo, hindi na kita mahal. Wala na tayo!"

She walked out the door and James fell onto his knees as he cried against the cold wooden floor.

"Don't leave me, Nadine..."

"Nadine......don't leave me..Nadine..I love you...." James mumbled in his sleep. His eyes immediately shot open and he sat up, placing a hand on his beating heart.

It was just a nightmare.

James ran his fingers across his skin and felt the moisture from his tears.  He fell back onto his bed and snuggled his head into the pillow.

He was feeling sick and currently was in his aunt's house resting. Nadine had wanted to go shopping and despite her worries on his condition, he was able to convince her to go as he felt it was selfish to have her stay rather than go and enjoy the city.

He let out a cough as a sigh escaped from his throat. He hated being sick and laying in bed. Not only because of the feeling it gave and how limited he could be, but of the thoughts that came into his mind when resting in bed. Alone. In the silence with only the sound of the breeze outside to comfort him.

And rather than soothe the situation, the back of his brain or whatever part produced dreams just had to mess with him and have him think of Nadine breaking up with him.

Thanks self, he thought bitterly.

The situation had prompted his thoughts to roam the depths of the issue of love, a word seemingly so simple yes so complex for James.

James Reid was a self-proclaimed romantic, but unbeknownst to most people a pessimist about love--particularly when it came to the idea that love can last.

Because he's been in love. He's seen others in love, but he also has been witness to others losing the same love that once kept them going.

He could never even remember witnessing his parents in love because they broke up when he was so young.

He saw his father go through a string of women and none stuck around.

He had friends be so in love with someone only for them to break up sometimes within months

And he himself had been in love twice before. And both of them ended with understandable reasons, but the way in which he could fall out of love caused him to question if such a phenomenon really did sustain.
