I remember being only 9 years old when I met him.......the person that I never thought would mean so much to me. My mom had decided for us to move from San Francisco to LA as a fresh start, my dad had left us leaving nothing behind and my mum didn't want to be reminded of him anymore. It was my first day at school and I was nervous as hell, meeting new people is something that I wasn't very good at. All I can remember clearly from that day was that loud little boy who had the brown ratty hair and a nice smile. I was too scared to talk to him but he seemed really nice.
A few months later my mum and I got invited to dinner with a family, the Clarks. She works with the mother, Madison. I soon find out that their son, Nick, is the boy with the ratty hair in my class. I'm so excited that I'll finally get to talk to him! I learn that his dads name is Steven and he has a younger sister Alicia.
When we arrive at the Clark's house and we're instantly welcomed by Madison. "It's so nice to meet you Olivia" Madison says pulling me in for a hug. "It's nice to meet you too Mrs. Clark" I mumble into her shirt. "You can call me Madison sweetheart" she chuckled. "Why don't you go into the living room to meet Nick and Alicia, they've been dying to meet you!" Madison says as she gently pushes me in the direction of the living room.
I slowly walk in the house and make my way into the living room spotting Nick and Alicia playing with some toys on the couch. They haven't noticed me yet. "Hi" I squeak almost inaudible while nervously playing with the hem of my shirt. Both of them look up surprised. "Hey! Your Olivia? Your in my class aren't you?" Nick asks while jumping off the couch and walking over to me, Alicia trailing behind. "Yeah, Hey Nick!" I smile as Nick walks up and pulls me into a hug.
I remember always going over to Nick's house whenever I got the chance. We became inseparable, never wanting to leave each other's side. Even at school we were always together no matter what. Our moms thought it was so cute and they were so happy that we were friends.
We were 14 when things became a bit more serious, I had a huge crush on him but I didn't know if he liked me back. Our hugs became longer and goodbyes became harder (even though we would be seeing each other the next day). We couldn't live without each other. It's like we always had to be in each other's presence.
16 was when we started our relationship. "Olivia, I think I'm in love with you!" Nick shyly whispered avoiding my gaze. I stare at him in shock wondering if I heard him right or if its just a dream. "I think I'm in love with you too Nick" I smile when he finally looks into my eyes and they flick down to my lips for a brief second. Does he want to kiss me? My stomach is doing flips as he slowly leans in capturing my lips in a soft kiss. When we pull back we can't help the enormous smiles on our faces. "Will you be my girlfriend?" He mumbles scratching the back of his head nervously. "Of course I will Nick" I smile.
"Promise me that no matter what we will always be together" Nick says holding his pinky finger out to me. "I promise!"
But then the drugs started.....
