Chapter 4

Taking the next morning to do our routine security run through; setting up cameras around a perimeter, a few motion detectors in the house and around it, alarm systems, and a few other small things to ensure our protection in case of attack so we could make a timely escape. Of course none of it was for the long term, and could all be set up within a day. All just there so we could know if we were in danger, delay the threat- if we're lucky eliminate some of it, and escape.

We'd gotten unpacking and setting up all of it down to a science. Jane was better with the technology part of it all, and me being better with the weapons portion. By mid afternoon we were nearly done and I was just finishing up a few cameras that I placed higher up in trees when I heard a phone ring inside.

Jane heard it to and went to answer, waiting for the other person to speak first so she knew it was secure.

"Hello Miss Jane, this is Paul. It just so happens that our alpha arrived a day early from his travels, and would like to, if convenient, have an informal meeting with you and your sister." He said, his voice serious and getting right to the point- wasting no time on small talk or pleasantries.

"That sounds fine to me, at the pack house again I presume" Jane replied, I could hear her continuing to type on the computer as she had been before.

Knowing their conversation would be ending soon I stopped making an effort to listen, finishing up the last camera I opted to jump down from the tree instead of climb, it being much quicker.

I knew the house would be stocked with nonperishables, canned foods, water, and other things like that. But the few others things we wanted more than needed we'd have to buy. So I headed back inside to change into clothes that weren't covered in oil and dirt, and grab the necessary cash, as well as a new license plate to go buy a new car and a few groceries.

I'd already stripped and burned the car we'd come here with, though we'd already changed cars once since getting attacked by the hunters this most recent time, not wanting to come into town in a car we'd been spotted in, even if all those who'd seen us were likely dead. But just to be safe while we were here we'd get a used car from the area with a new set of plates and have the windows replaced with bulletproof glass to drive while we were here.

As I started up the stairs I saw Jane come out into the hall, sliding her phone into her back pocket.

"I assume you heard the conversation, so if your back in the next two hours or so then you should have some time to get ready before we head over there." she said smiling at me with a taunting look in her eye.

"Yeah yeah I won't make us late I promise." I said, rolling my eyes as I headed towards my room.

"Do you need anything from the grocery store? I finished setting up the last of the outdoor cameras and ditched the car so I'm heading into town to get a few things and grab a new car." I told her while I pulled my hair back and slipped on sneakers as well as an oversized jacket with a hood, grabbing sunglasses and some cash.

"Mhmm some steaks would be nice, maybe some milk and ice cream of course" Jane said leaning on the doorframe looking into my room.

"You got it. I should be back in a few hours. I've got my phone with me if you need anything. Just make sure to arm everything as soon as I'm gone please." I said zipping up my jacket and slipping on my sunglasses, pulling the hood over my head as I walked past her heading towards the staircase.
