"Honey! I'm home!" I shouted as I pushed the crooked door open and walked into the creaky kitchen.
Walking across the wooden floor was an adventure in it's self. Having been the first home I built, it wasn't quite, how do I say this, Sturdy. Most of the doors, though I had made them large enough for Arie and I to go through, were either tilted just enough it was noticeable or warped so much you couldn't close them. Luckily, those were just the doors down the hall. The one's leading outside, which I had done last, were the most passable of the lot. The ceilings were arched, so neither of us hit our heads. Lucky us. And each room was big enough for us to lay out in. The house may have had only three rooms, we shared a bedroom, but in my mind it was a masterpiece.
Arie walked out of the living room/ lounge and glared at me. I only grinned back and set my bag on the kitchen table. His contribution to the house besides his wonderful cooking.
"Don't call me that" He muttered as he walked over. Soundlessly, he opened the bag and started to pull out the food I had gathered.
"Well, if you're going to stay around here all day and not do anything, I'm going to keep calling you that" I replied, leaning against the wall beside him. "Besides, you know you like it" I teased. He gave a low growl and set the vegetables off to the side.
"Ugh, you ruined the veggies" He muttered as he pulled the carcass of the pig I had caught out "Why would you put this in there as well?"
"Where else would I have put it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You could have just eaten it when you caught it" Arie grumbled as he set it off to the side with a distasteful look.
"What? Why would I do that when you cook so perfectly?" I asked, faking a shocked tone. In return, he glared at me. Arie was a strong, undeniable vegetarian.
"I'm not cooking that" He replied as he turned to the veggies and fruit. He started sorting them, but never looked back at me.
"Awe, why not? You know it smells good" I replied, walking up behind him.
"No, I don't. I think it's cruel" He replied. "He was just minding his own business when you came out of no where and killed him for no good reason"
"No good reason? I though he'd be tasty" I smiled. "oh, and it's a girl by the way"
"Even worse!" He replied. "If you want it cooked, you do it yourself"
"How- how is that worse?" I laughed "It's a pig" I rolled my eyes, and walked to the fireplace, where an iron rod was set on two hooks that jutted out of the side. I took the pot off and set it next to Arie.
"I need that" He said, watching me out of the corner of his eyes.
"I know, I'm just taking it off for the moment" I replied. I sat on the floor and pulled the pig over toward me. From my bag I took a stone sword I had found and held it next to the pig.
"No!" Arie said "Go do that outside! I'm not cleaning the floors again" He glared at me and I sighed.
"Fine, fine" I muttered. I picked up the pig and walked outside. "Just so you know, I'm not sharing" I said as I passed. He stuck his tongue out at me. I stuck mine out back.
------
A thunderstorm later that night woke me. Arie was still asleep across the room. His snoring was evident enough of that. Another crack of thunder had me sitting up. The glass in the window was covered in rain.
I looked around confused, and sat up from my mat to look around. I listened, but I couldn't here any other noises. Another crack of thunder sounded outside, and the whole house shook. I groaned and went to lie back down. I figured I wasn't used to the noises of the overworld yet. In my defense, they were and still are very different from the sounds of the end.
As I was lying there though, trying hard to fall asleep, I heard something outside. It was a small, scratching sound. Slowly, I sat back up again and listened.
It sounded again, and I slowly stood up. It sounded like it was coming from the living room, right outside the door. I pulled the stone sword from my pack and quietly made my way toward the door.
I opened it slowly, and for once the door didn't creek. The room was dark, but the sound started getting louder. I blinked a few times as my eyes started to adjust. In the corner where our chests were, I could see a small figure digging through the nearest one. I watched curiously. It wasn't a pig, and didn't walk on four legs like anything else I had seen in my time in the overworld. In actuality, it looked like a small enderman.
I dropped the hand with the sword to my sided, and started to walk toward it. I started to say something, to try and get it's attention, when I stepped wrong. The floorboards creaked loudly and the figure froze. Slowly it turned around, and stared into the darkness. I laughed a little. The thing started backing toward the door.
"wa-" I started, and reached out toward it.
Just then, a bolt of lightning cut across the sky, lighting up the room. The thing looked right at me, and screamed. I stared in astonishment as it ran out the door into the pouring ran. It ran, and ran, until it disappeared into the darkness of the woods.
I stood there, frozen, for I don't know how long. I was in shock. The thing that stood out to me the most was the fact the thing really did look like a miniature enderman, except it's skin had been lighter, and it had hair only on the top of it's head, cascading down in light brown curls. And- it was wearing clothes.
Arie ran out of the room, bumping into the door in the process, and stared at the open front door in shock.
"What happened?" He asked, before looking at me worried. I just shook my head and pointed to the chests.
"There was a small- I don't know. A small thing going through our chests" I replied in little more than a mutter.
Arie's eyes grew wide. "There was a human here?" He asked. I looked at him confused.
"A what?" I looked at him. "No, that didn't-"
He cut me off. "was it small, wearing clothes, and walking on two legs?" He asked.
I nodded slowly.
"Did it smell like a zombie?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
I shook my head. I stared at him, waiting for whatever he was leading this to.
"Then that was a human. He'll be back here by morning with the rest of his village" Arie replied. He marched back to the room and grabbed his bag before marching back out.
"we need to go now, or they'll come back and kill us""If we go now, we'll die from the rain" I countered. "And by the way she was acting, I don't think she's getting her village" I sat down on the floor and leaned back against the chests.
Arie paced the room, his bag thrown over his shoulders, and growled under his breath.
"Fine" He muttered "Fine. We don't leave tonight. But the first sign of trouble, we're out of here"
"Deal" I smirked. "Now go back to bed"
Arie nodded and started back toward the room restlessly. He stopped in the doorway and looked back at me.
"What about you?" He asked. I looked at him and tilted my head to the side.
"What about me?" I asked.
"Aren't you coming back to bed?" He asked. I shook my head and smiled.
"I'm not tired" I lied "And even if I were, I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep with all this noise" I smirked. Arie nodded, and without another word closed the door. In a few minutes, I heard him snoring.
I sat there the rest of the night, wondering. The first human I had ever seen, and it was trying to steal from me. How ironic.
