Dawna
I came here as a mistake. No, I don't mean that my parents had me by accident, they definitely planned for me to come into this world. They just expected a boy to be brought into their arms. Well no. My parents can't seem to make a boy. They made mistake number two, my little sister, Gale. After they had her, my mother could no longer have children. My mother hated us. She truly hated us.
It's not like they have to live with us forever though. Soon, I'll be probably be sent a way to a man who will buy me. That's how it is here in Lunatopia. Women are property, and have no rights whatsoever. We are simply just here for men. Women are a great pleasure for men, we give them a great time. We're expected to work for them, make babies, and do absolutely anything that pleases them. And I mean ANYTHING that makes your husband happy.
I bet you're wondering, how did our society get like this? Well apparently many moons ago, our goddess of the moon and night sky, Luna, rained down upon the skies and told us mortals, that women are not equals, and that she made us simply for a man's pleasure. A prophecy was made, and it's been like this ever since.
Honestly? I think it's a crock of bullshit. A guy probably just hated that some woman are capable of being much more powerful than men, got jealous, and made the prophecy himself, since he was in such a high power, and gave credit to Luna. Plus, why would Luna make things so horrible for us woman, when she is a female herself? To me it doesn't make any sense.
But if it's true, if Luna is real, and really did make this cruel prophecy, it's never going to be any goddess I'll ever worship.
I walk over to the mirror on the wall. I look at my reflection, pull my chocolate hair back into a messy bun. My skin, honey colored. They say I'm the most beautiful in the township of Cosmo. I don't believe the rumors, even the good ones. Sure, I believed I was pretty, but far from beautiful. I had round cheeks, plump brown lips. My eyes were a dark brown, practically black.
There were many girls in Cosmo that were prettier than me, but they were mean. They hated me. I don't really know why. Valentina, Mia, and Serenity. Valentina hated me the most. She had blazing red hair and emerald eyes. A bitch is what I'd call her.
Then there was Mia. She was very short, but sassy as hell. She had colored her hair a vibrant pink a couple of days ago. She hated me as well.
Lastly, there was Serenity. She was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen in Cosmo. She had a perfect jawline, and the greenest eyes, as bright as an emerald. Her hair was a bright blonde color, practically white, and full of beach waves. To be completely honest, Serenity wasn't even mean. She never called me names or shoved me. She would just always hang around Valentina and Mia, which was pretty annoying, but I didn't care.
Gale looked the exact opposite of me. She took a look more like my mother's. She had an olive skin color and a dirty blonde hair color, with hazel eyes. You wouldn't know that we where sisters unless we told you.
"Dawna! Come into the kitchen, now!"
"Coming mother!" I scream back to her. I walk through our tiny little home. We aren't very wealthy, but we get by.
I walk into the kitchen to see my mother and father both sitting at the kitchen table. My Dad's head is in his hands, it looks as if he is crying. My Mother on the other hand, looks fine. Of course, Mother is going to be nice to me because Dad is in the room. "Honey, please sit down" my Mother says as she pulls out a chair for me.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask, a bit worried. My Dad finally lifts his head from his palms. Yes, he was crying. His cheeks are shiny from tears, his eyes rubbed a rose red.
My Mother rests her hand on mine. I flinch at her touch. She notices, and looks mad, but contains herself because Dad sits beside her. Mother gives me a smile that looks like it should be a smile, but she is struggling not to grin.
"We have something to tell you"
