How has your day been?
This is mine.

8:40 am
Battling princesses, walking snakes, arctic lions. Dreaming is my strong suit. Waking up is not.
My eyes flutter open expecting to see my bedroom. Instead, charlie is hunched over my face with snot dripping out of his nose.
"Ewwww Charlie!" I lurch upright wiping my face with disgust.
He smiles and runs out of my rooms looking satisfied. Evil little-
"Your late!" He shouts. My clock reads 8:45 am. School starts at 8:55. Not again!
I throw my covers off me like a mad women and try to get to my dresser. Hence the word try. I flop out of bed like a fish and when I'm up, I trip over from my blanket, sending me whirling to the ground hitting my dresser.
"Damn it!" I yell.
Your burning time here Tess! I throw on a blue sweatshirt and black leggings. It's not like I have that much to chose from anyway.I run out of my room and stop at the top of the stairs. It's mornings like these that I have to be careful. My parents would kill me if I woke them up. "One step at a time." I whisper to myself. I tiptoe down the stairs, hoping to keep the old boards silent with each step. I take the last step onto the cool floor. Wow I did it? Maybe I should be a professional tiptoe'er! I look to the clock; it reads 8:50.
"Tess, I need my Eggo's now!" Charlie yells from the living room, watching his morning cartoons.
I race to the fridge and take them out, putting them on the counter for him to do himself. What 6 year old's don't know how to make there own waffles?
"Charlie I'm late, you can make them yourself, and stop yelling you'll wake up mom and dad." I tell him.
He doesn't reply so I grab my keys and go to the hallway closet to get my school bag. The door to the closet was broken on one of the hinges so I tried to pry it open with all my strength. No luck. Guess I don't need it today!I race outside to my red Volkswagen 1980 and start the engine.
"Yes finally, something is working out for me today!" I scream in joy.
I plant a big old kiss on the steering wheel and speed off determined to get there before the bell. This is my third time being late in the past week and a half. Its not my fault, Charlie keeps screwing up my alarm clock.I pull into my usual parking spot beside Derek's. I step out to the car and race to the doors. I can taste my own breath, since I had no time to brush them. I run through the empty halls to my locker.
"Another late Tess?" A voice calls out to me that I know all to well.
I come to a halt and slowly turn around to face the enemy. Vice principal Rena. "Look, my alarm didn't go off; I didn't even get any breakfast, my brother is an evil little-""Save it Tess." she cuts me off. "Detention after school for an hour." "But-"
"No buts, now get to class." I groan in frustration and book it to my class, only to hear her yell after me.
"Don't be late again Tess, and don't run through the halls." I internally scream and keep running as a small act of defiance. Hehehe.I grab my history binder from my locker and race to class. I reach Mr. Plent's classroom and peer through the door window. He's giving a lesson to the class and they look as if they're sad zombies. Mouths open in boredom. Someone in the back is even drooling a bit. Gross. I knock on the door already regretting my decision, as everyone looks at me. There gazes burn into me, including Derek who smirks at me as if to say i'm in trouble when I already know I am.
Mr. Plent walks over to open the door for me with a raised overgrown eyebrow. "Late yet again miss Parker?" He asks. "Yes sir, it won't happen again. Well maybe. I hope. But if it does I apologize in advan-" He cuts me off. What's up with people doing that today? "Tess just sit down you've already wasted everyone's time today."
He moves out of the way so I can go in.
"Yes mister sir man." I mumble as I go to sit down next to Derek. He's snickering at me as I roll my eyes getting my papers out in front of me and scribble down the notes on the board."Late again miss Tess" he resists, only loud enough for us to hear. "Ya Charlie again." I say. "Hey do u have any gum on you?" Derek nods and passes me a piece.
Derek is the total package kind of guy. Plays football, tall, handsome, blue eyes, blond hair, you name it, he's got it. Except not a lot of people know but; he's gay. Really gay. Like, gay since grade 6. He hasn't come out to his parents yet but I know they will be fine with it. Yet Derek still isn't ready.
"You up for dinner tonight? It's on me." Derek asks. "Ya sure. Is Kim coming?" I reply. "Ya I'll ask her at lunch."
"Excuse me you two. Is there something you would like to share in front of the class?" Mr. Plent asks.
"No not at all sir, we like to keep our conversations private." Derek reply's with a big smile making the whole class snicker. Mr. Plent's face goes red like a fat tomato. "Detention after school for you mister, maybe then you will learn your manners." He looks pleased with himself after sentencing Derek to a torturous hour after school. Hey at least I won't be alone!
The bell goes off dismissing us for second period. Derek and I say our goodbyes. Well hasn't this been a fun morning.
