Let me first explain that I am the most average teenager this world has to offer. My hair is a rat's nest in the mornings. I've spilled coffee on myself more times than I can count in this last semester of school alone. I am in my last year of school with no boyfriend or date to grad. I am absolutely terrified of spiders. I also regret to admit that I've spent more time actually doing school work than slacking off this year.
Really, your average life, right? Nothing even remotely amazing about to happen right.
Wrong! So wrong, in fact, I recommend you immediately thank your lucky stars you never had to endure what I have and move on with your life.
For those of you very kind sympathizers who have opted to hear me out I will tell you the rest of this...this...well, series of weird events that lead to my demise. Oh yes. It really is the end for me.
It all began on a dark and stormy night on October 31st just before midnight. Nah, I'm just pulling your leg. It actually started out on the most average day, or so I thought at the time. It was mid-March and my parents were going away for the weekend with my little bother Anthony.
I waved goodbye to the parentals and my brother as their car pulled out from the long suburban driveway, and as soon as they were out of sight I snatched the phone off the hook. Within moments I had my BFF Eva's number dialed and I was super hyped.
"Hello, Marchenko's residence." A very exhausted maternal voice replied on the other end. The sound of kids screaming and toys flying was very apparent in the background.
"Hi, Mrs.M. I was wondering if Eva was free to chat."
I nervously twirled the phone cord around my finger.
"Ok, hold on for a moment. EVAAAAAA! Your friend is on the phone for you."
Just then the distinct crash of glass was heard in the distance, and the phone went wild with shouting voices. Mrs.M dropped the phone and went into a flurry of Hungarian that I was glad I did not understand.
"Hey Rosie, what's up." Thank goodness Eva picked up the phone.
"Not much Eva. The Parents have officially left the whole house to me and tonight is spa night. What do you think? You can bring the films and I've got the best munchies all laid out. I was thinking a monster movie marathon like our usual."
"Oh. Was that tonight," Eva's voice drooped. "Mrs.Santiago, Ms. Rolf, and Mr. Jamesen all left their kids here tonight and now there are twelve kids running around. Mom is in a total panic and I have to help. Sorry Rose. I promise I'll make it up to you later. How about next week?"
"Sure, Eva. No problem. Good luck with the kids I guess."
Another loud bang and more screaming was heard through the phone.
"Thanks for understanding Rose and I gotta seriously go. I'm coming Mom!"
Click.
Well that utterly fell through, I thought as I hung up the phone on the receiver.
Ever since Eva's mom started her own daycare there was just never any time for fun plans. Eva always had to help out. In some ways I understood the need for income with a single parent home, but I still felt very much robbed of a best friend.
"Fine," I said to myself. "I can have a fun movie spa night all on my own!"
What can I say, I try to be an optimist.
Soon I was fresh from the bathtub smelling of french lavender or something, and snuggled into my favorite PJ's. Most of the snack foods like jellybeans, licorice, and chips were already on the coffee table in the living room but I was seriously craving ice cream.
