Mornings were the bane of everyone's existence, and this was no different for (Y/n). His alarm clock was blaring incessantly, a bleary glare directed at the offending object. (Y/n) knew that he couldn't sleep forever though, and so -after wiggling his way out from under his orange tabby cat, Pumpkin- he begins to prepare for yet another day. Most local ice skating competitions were over, and if this year was anything like all the ones before them, that meant that his season was very near its end.
It had been a long journey as it was; for a while (y/n) had to simply practice on his own time for his own enjoyment. Even local competitions wouldn't allow him to skate before he was at least 'passing' -in a leotard no less- so it took some serious time on testosterone and top surgery before he could even compete on the local level. (Y/n) wasn't even allowed to try for his dream before he was nineteen. But he had already gone so far beyond his simple practicing, and he had a coach that he knew he could trust.
Upon hearing a familiar ringtone, (y/n) answers his phone. He had to wonder what could have possibly possessed his coach to call him this early. "Yo, (y/n)! How're you doing this morning?" "I'm fine Alexander. Still a bit tired, but fine. What's up with you though? You've literally never called me this early before" Alexander quite enjoyed to sleep in himself, after all. "I've got some news for you. I was contacted by the head of the international competition again and-" "If they're offering me a spot in the women's skate yet again this year, I want you to tell them that they can take their invite and shove it straight up their-" "They're offering you a spot in the men's skate, (y/n)." The line went quiet for a moment, shock evident on the younger male's face. "R-really? Are you serious, Alexander? For real? They finally..." He was not going to cry over this... (Y/n) swore to himself as he was doing exactly that.
"Yeah, really. I may like to joke around but I'd never screw with you like that (y/n). It'd be beyond cruel." "Thank you, Alexander. For fighting for me these past three years. We're finally going to do it! We're finally going to get to compete outside of America!" "We are, (y/n). We are... I'm so very glad, and I'm incredibly proud of you for hanging on to your dream, and for working so hard that you finally having the chance to prove yourself to them. Show them that you're the man we both know you are, (y/n). Ah! I've got to go; planning and such to work out. I'll text you with the details, talk to you later!"
He couldn't believe it. After all this time he'd finally have the chance to make his dream come true. (Y/n) tried to mask his mix of excitement and nerves by scrolling through social media, and he came across quite the interesting tale. 'Victor is going to coach Yuuri Katsuki in Japan?? The world is full of firsts on this day. Who would've thought that Victor would take a year off just to coach!' The young man was startled by the sudden buzz of a text message, nearly dropping his phone entirely.
Alexander: Did you see the news about Victor, (y/n)?
(Y/n): Yeah! Why?
Alexander: I've actually been talking with the owner of a skating rink in Japan, her name is Yuko and she and her family own Ice Castle Hasetsu. Anyways, I was hoping to train you somewhere else in the event of going international to add some variety to your routine and got her approval to train you there.
(Y/n): Ooooh really??? That sounds awesome. I'll have to ask my mom to take care of Pumpkin while I'm gone... And to FaceTime me with Pumpkin too. Maybe we'll get lucky and get to catch a glimpse of Victor or Yuuri!
Alexander: Haha, you've always been a pretty big fan of the both of them, haven't you? Though you admire pretty much any ice skater to be fair. The big surprise is this, though. Ice Castle Hasetsu is where Yuuri trains, (y/n). Which means you won't only be seeing them, you'll quite likely be training together. This time, (y/n) actually dropped his phone from pure shock. What a journey this was shaping up to be. Even if he was a bit farther behind than the others, (y/n) would give it his all. Everything he has ever done has led him to this moment.
