Bryana gasped. Her hand shaking, she reached over to turn on the lamp. She struggled to turn on the light . . . just as Luke pulled himself into the room.

Don't scream, Bryana. Don't scream.

He grinned at her, that warm, familiar grin, and walked stiffly away from the window and into the yellow light. Bryana gasped once again. She let out an unhuman sound as Luke spoke. "Hi, Bryana." His voice was a whisper, almost ghostly.

"Luke - I - what? Luke?"

"Yeah, it's me."

Don't scream, don't scream, don't scream. Don't move.

"I - I don't understand."

"What do you mean, Bryana?" He grinned at her. His shoes crunched against the hardwood floor as he walked stiffly toward her. Bryana grabbed her pepper spray out of her top drawer, fearing what Luke was about to do.

"Bryana, are you listening to me?" She let out another cry.

"But, but - Luke!" She watched in horror as Luke pulled a chunk of skin from his face. It landed on the floor with a flop. It sounded just like the sound of ripping the guts out of a fish, Bryana thought, thinking of all the times her and her cousins would rip apart fish after they were filleted.

If I can fillet a fish, why can't I fillet Luke? Bryana thought bitterly. After all, he's already dead.

She nearly choked at the smell. The smell of rotting flesh. The smell of Luke.

"Bryana, is something wrong?" Luke asked her, looking into her eyes. The whites of his eyes were turning yellow, Bryana noticed, and red veins were covering his whole eye.

His eyes were always so beautiful, so shiny, and deep. Bryana could've looked at them for hours. Now they were just disgusting. Dead, and disgusting.

"Yes! Yes, there is something wrong!" Her shrill voice cut the looming silence. "How can you be doing this? Luke - you're dead!"
