"I'm so sorry."

"Thanks...but...y-you don't need. To be sorry for me. Be sorry for her." She whispered looking at the mutilated corpse. I nodded slowly as I stood up and walked away from the scene. Chase met me at the door.

"Hey so I see you met Emma." He said following me up the stairs. I looked at my feet and shrugged.

"Which one?" I said trying to look less sad. He punched me in the arm.

"The girl who hugged you, idiot. I mean it's sad that Katie was found dead. There's no doubt about it, but Emma so likes you dude."

"Yeah a lot of girls like me. So what?" I said, still remembering the dead girl.

"So what?! You are like a Rockstar dude! And it's only your first day!" He said looking back and stopping. He stepped back and stared at a girl. I turned around and saw that it was Mabel.

"Dipper! That was sooo scary!" She said, running up to me and almost knocking me over with a hug. I stepped back and looked at Chase. His jaw was dropped in total surprise.

"Hey Mabel. Um...yeah I guess it was. This is Chase by the way." I said, trying to pry her off of my side. She looked over at his blonde mop of hair and smiled.

"Your hair is soooo cute!" She said jumping off of me. He smiled as she played with his hair. But she didn't hang out for long. The girl she was sitting with on the bus called her, and they walked off with their arms linked.

"Dude! I think I'm in love!" He said, stumbling up the rest of the stairs. We could hear sirens blaring outside of the windows. I knew it was for the girl. But I just followed Chase to class. Everyone was looking out the window at the ambulance. I sat down in the back of the class. Everyone sat down and didn't even notice me. The bell rang and the teacher began to give a lecture. A few minutes through it Emma walked in. Her face was still red and she was still sniffing away tears. She sat down in the desk next to me without saying a word. While the teacher was put looking, I leaned over to her.

"Hey um...are you ok?" I asked her. No answer. "Um...do you...need another hug." She looked at me, tears filling up in her eyes, and nodded. I leaned forward and wrapped her in a hug. She hugged me back and lightly sobbed on my shoulder.

Chase and if stepped back on the bus. It had done a complete180 from that morning. Kids were jumping seats and throwing paper. Instead of sitting quietly and talking amongst themselves. Mabel stepped on the bus and sat in a seat by herself. As soon as she sat down, Chase got up and sat next to her. I was alone until a certain blonde stepped onto the bus. My heart began to race as Pacifica walked down the aisle. She smiled when she saw me and sat next to me. Her blonde hair twirled as she looked at me.

"So how was your day? You never came and said hey to me." She said, scooting closer to me.

"Um...ok I guess. Aside from the whole dead girl thing ya know." I mumbled pulling my hat off. The bus began to drive and I leaned back. Pacifica was staring at me, and I tried not to notice. The bus went on a sharp turn and she was hurled into me. She grabbed onto me to keep herself from slipping, and I blushed. She looked up at me, she was blushing too.

"I'm sorry Dipper." She said sitting up.

"Oh it's ok. I've been hugged a lot today." I laughed.

"Wha-I didn't hug you! I just slipped!"

"Then why did you grab onto me. That seemed like a hug to me." I dared her.

"Wha-I just didn't want to fall out of the seat." She protested folding her arms over her chest.

We got to the mystery shack and I ran up to my room. I threw my bag and skateboard onto the floor and pulled book 3 off of the shelf. I sat on my bed and began to flip though the pages.

"I knew you couldn't stay away from that book for long." Mabel said from the doorway. "So what's this mystery about.

"Who or more likely, what killed that girl." I said flipping past the page on gnomes. I flipped to a page I hadn't ever noticed before. It read "Fish People. These creatures are extremely dangerous. With sharp claws and teeth they can easily rip through skin and flesh. They hunger for human flesh and blood. They can camouflage themselves as humans but beware, they are deadly killers. I have encountered them in the river that feeds to Gravity Falls. If you encounter them in water you have little chance of winning. If they are in human form, they will most likely drink a lot of water. Only Known Weaknesses: salt, fire, electricity." I looked at the drawing and I examined the possibilities. "This could be the killer. Mabel you and I are going to investigate tomorrow." I said as Mabel unpacked her book bag.

"Yay! Adventure!" She squealed, jumping onto her bed.
