Chapter 6
Cannon
"Are you okay?" Annalise asked me in the morning when we were both laying in the tent, too lazy to get up. She was already asleep by the time I got into the tent last night, so she didn't notice that something was going on.
"Why do you ask?" I asked.
"It just looks like something is bothering you," Annalise said.
I sighed, wanting to tell her because I didn't want to keep secrets from her, but I also didn't know what her reaction would be if I told her Hunter and I kissed. She knew Hunter would always have a special place in my heart, but the only reason why she was fine with it was because she knew nothing would ever happen.
But something did happen.
"Cannon?" Annalise asked. "What's wrong?"
I sighed again and looked over at her. "If I tell you something, you have to promise you won't get mad," I said.
"Well, it's kind of hard to promise that when I don't know what you're going to say," Annalise pointed out.
"That really doesn't help," I said.
"Sorry," Annalise said. "I promise I'll keep an open mind. So, what's wrong?"
I hesitated for a bit before telling her. "Hunter and I kissed last night."
Annalise didn't say anything for a while. When she finally did say something, all she said was, "What?"
"Hunter and I kissed last night," I repeated. "He told me that while he's still in love with Violet and she means everything to him, he said he's also in love with me and he never told me because he would rather have me as his best friend than risk dating."
"So, is he bi too? Or maybe pan?" Annalise then gasped. "His great-grandma totally called it!"
I furrowed my eyebrows. "What?"
"Remember? When we went to her house? She asked if you were her boyfriend, and she said it was because of the way he looked at you."
"No, I mean what is in....you're not mad?"
"Cannon, come on," Annalise said. "First off, you told me about it so you're not trying to keep secrets from me. And two, you hear me and Violet go on about Canter all the time. Besides, it's not like you're going to break up with me for him or have some sort of secret affair....You're not, are you?"
"No, definitely not," Cannon said. "The kiss was more of a goodbye kiss. I love you so much, Lise, and I am so glad you're in my life. Seriously, I've said this so many times that what I feel for you is a lot more than what I felt, and what I'm still feeling, for Hunter."
Annalise rolled over so she was laying on her stomach, smiling down at me. "And that is another reason I'm not mad. I know that he will always mean something special to you, but I also know that you're not dating me just to get over him. You really do love me and you would never do anything to intentionally hurt me."
I smiled back, resting my hand on her cheek. "Thank you for being so cool about this."
Annalise smiled even wider as I pressed my lips on hers. It may seem unbelievable to those who knew me for a long time, but if I really did have a choice between being with Hunter and Annalise, I would choose Annalise.
