Chapter 4

Hunter

       I had to tell Violet.

If I was going to somehow get over this, I really had to let my girlfriend know otherwise I would feel extremely guilty. Besides, it wasn't like I was going to dump Violet to be with Cannon. Violet was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and I knew Annalise was the one Cannon wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

My feelings were just extremely complicated.

When night fell, we had the fire going in the fire pit, roasting marshmallows and eating s'mores. I still didn't know exactly what to say to Violet, but I knew I was going to have to tell her soon about my feelings for Cannon.

I really hoped she took it well.

Annalise was getting tired and wanted to go to bed, so Cannon offered to go with her to the washrooms, which was a bit of a walk from the site we were staying in, so I thought that was the perfect opportunity to talk to Violet.

Once Cannon and Annalise were out of sight, I finally said something. "Do you....do you think it's possible to be in love with more than one person?" I asked.

"At the same time?" Violet asked and I nodded. "Yeah, I would say so. There are billions of people on the earth, so I doubt there's only one person that anyone would ever be in love with, and there are so many couples out there that are in love and end up breaking up and falling in love with someone else. Why?"

I sighed. Now I couldn't say anything. It was harder than I thought it would be.

       "Are you?" Violet asked.

I hesitated a bit before nodding. "It's you I want to be with, though. I want to spend the rest of my life with you no doubt, but....Like I said, it's complicated. Are you mad?"

"Why would I be mad?" she asked.

"That I admitted to being in love with someone else," I said.

"Are you still in love with me?" Violet asked.

"Yeah, of course, one hundred percent," I said. "Not a doubt in my mind."

"Are you dating me just to get over your feelings for the other person?" she asked.

       "What? No."

"Then nope. I can't be mad at you. If you're dating me because you love me, and you want to be with me, then I can't be mad at you. Humans are complex, especially our feelings. So, have you told this other person?"

       "Nope."

       "Are you going to?"

"Seriously? You want me to be like, 'Hey, Cannon. Even though I'm very much in love with Violet, I'm in love with you too'."

It wasn't until I finished the sentence that I knew I messed up.

       Big time.

"Oh my goodness," Violet said, a smile creeping on her face for some reason. "You're in love with Cannon?"

"What? No," I said. "I didn't say Cannon. I said....Hold on, let me think of a name."

"So, are you bi?" Violet asked.

I sighed and lowered my head. "I don't know what I am. I've never had feelings for any other guys nor am I attracted to them, but Cannon...."
