Writer's block is one of the most obnoxious things about writing, well, just about anything. You could be writing an epic about the adventures of a rainbow sheep or just an essay on the anatomy of a Great White Shark, chances are, you will get stuck at one point or another.
"What is this 'Writer's Block' you speak of?" The lucky few who've never experienced it before may ask.
Well, you see my younglings, writer's block comes in many shapes and sizes.
I give you (a few of many) types of writer's block:
1)I Can't Start:
Sometimes you have a really great idea, free of clichés (refer to your notes from last class) and overall original. The problem? You can't start. For any number of reasons you just aren't able to start. Nothing seems right to start off this new journey and life of your character.
The Solution:
Read a popular book or a two. This may seem useless at first, but eventually you get a good sense of how to write an introduction.2) I can't continue
You've gotten past your first few chapters and you're feeling confident so far, setting up your plot and where your story takes place. It's amazing! Then, you hit a snag, you don't know what to write next or how to bridge one major event to another.
The Solution:
Start writing down ideas, even if they have nothing to do with your story.*Snarky Girl In The Back Of The Class Raises Her Hand*
"Yes, Ms Snarl?"
"Ms MAlexiaG, how is writing down things that have nothing to do with the story supposed to help me with *squints eyes* writer's block?"Well, you see, if you jot down ideas about a random story you can find bits and pieces to incorporate into your story.
3) Extra ideas to help
Listen to music
Read any book you like
Watch a movie
Watch a TV show
Take a break! The subconscious is a magical thing and sometimes the best ideas come at the most random times.Well, I'm going to sign off
