This chapter will be all about teen fiction and the clichés within the genre.

Teen fiction is one of the larger catorgories here on Wattpad, meaning that there is a lot of competition for attention and reads in that section. Most of you probably know what Teen fiction is, but for those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about here's a quick description:

For the most part it's pretty self explanatory, Teen fiction is a story written about or for teens. This genre also happens to be one of the most diverse, as it depicts real life scenarios. When the main charter is a person of color, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, or any other number of marginalized communities, the story often revolves around problems and encounters that a person in that community would experience. These books mostly take place in a high school setting, but, like most things, there are exceptions [Like my book, From Redwoods To Red Hills (this isn't shameless self promo right?)].

I hope that made enough sense to give you a feel of what the genre is about.

This chapter has been pretty positive so far, so I'm going to ruin it! Yay! Though Teen Fiction is a very diverse genre, the sub categories often share one or two plots for most of the books. For example, the Teen fiction: Romance area is completely over taken by good girl bad boy stories. Honest, go look at the Teen Fiction category and you'll see, the farther down the list you go the more bad boy stories you'll find. I went more into detail about clichés in general in the chapter labeled clichés so I won't rant about it here, but it makes it harder for books without a bad x good romance to get out there.

I know this seems like I'm just ranting about bad x good stories but, to be completely honest, there's nothing inherently wrong with them, it's just the fact that the same plot is carried over from hundreds of books, that the story isn't unique anymore. After you read a few of these books, you've practically read them all, of course there will always be those gems that take the story to a new level, with plot twists and suspense, you don't know what's going to happen because, well, it's something new! New is good, even if it's based off of clichés, because there is always going to be something make you want to swipe to the next page, or scroll down.
