"are you kidding me? it's not funny." jiwoo glared at matthew as if he was pulling a joke. yet, there wasn't any humour on matthew's stoned face. he only numbly shook his head at jiwoo's question.

"i thought you would know. wasn't it so obvious?
didn't you see how she treated you and looked at you?
remember that day when she went on the first date with me?

"she called you immediately after the date didn't she? i had just parted with her, but her greetings to you... were so bright. i could tell immediately she likes you." matthew uttered dejectedly, before continuing, "up till this date, she has never greeted me so cheerfully."

"so what? that doesn't mean anything. you cannot just assume she likes me. somin's been dating you for 2 years now. how can you doubt her?" jiwoo argued.

remember that day when she had a sleepover with you? you saw her kissing me didn't you? she only did that because we fought over the issue of her leaving your town to stay with me. she did it because she wanted to reassure me that she only loves me. i asked her to choose between you and me but she couldn't answer. that kiss was also to check if you had any signs of jealousy which gave her the hope that you might like her. when you gave a nonchalent response, she was upset.
that was the sole reason she decided to come with me. she couldn't deal with your so called cold rejection." matthew continued.

jiwoo froze in her spot, trying to absorb what matthew shared. so many questions, so many thoughts. the girl was at a loss of words, until a question occurred to her.

"how did you know all these? somin couldn't have possibly told you, did she?" jiwoo narrowed her eyes at matthew.

visibly, his shoulders slumped and his facial features drooped," i snooped through her diary. i didn't mean to, but i couldn't understand somin fully so i was curious. she always smiles as if she had no worries, problems or burdens on her shoulders. i didn't even know how much she was tolerating and hurting on the inside."

the latter took her time digesting what matthew confessed. sure, she was angry for somin about the privacy matthew had breached, but at the same time she could empathize with how he felt and why he did it. her head was beginning to spin at the weight of the matter.

"okay so, why are you telling me all these?"

"because i have plans to engage and marry her. jiwoo, can you do me a favour? please help me help her to get over you. i can't live without her." matthew begged, "it's okay if you don't give me an answer now. you can have all the time to yourself to think about this. i hope you'll help me though, jiwoo."

after matthew left the room, jiwoo could only sigh and proceed back to the main room where everyone was at.
