“We waited for a few minutes as he read. With a sigh, he exclaimed, “Get her cleaned up.”
-The Rands-
Jill looked at me and tugged on my elbow. “C’mon, lets get you cleaned up.”
“Yeah, you should. She looks like she’s been rolling around in mud all day,” Gavin said, looking at me head to toe.
What? He doesn’t even know what I went though the entire day! For him to say I look like a mess is insulting!
“Well of course I’m going to look like I’ve been rolling in mud, I barley escaped death!” I spat back to him.
He seemed surprised that I said something back and so did Jill and Seth. They gave me a ‘did you really just say that?’ look. I ignored their stares and glared at Gavin. He was glaring at me, too.
“Look, no need to get harsh, I just made a comment.” Gavin said, playing the innocent.
“Well think before you make comments.” I said harshly. He gave me another glare, and I returned it.
“I think it’s time we go get you cleaned up,” Jill said, quickly pulling on my arm and dragging me out before I could say anything else.
She dragged me into the bare hall, and then into a dull bedroom. She quickly shut the door and locked it.
“I can’t believe you said that! And to Gavin!” She exclaimed.
“Well he offended me,” I replied.
She looked shocked, “It’s just… weird. For someone to stand up to Gavin, they ought to have guts.”
Wait, what? What’s so scary about Gavin? He may act like a jerk, but there’s nothing about him that makes me frightened.
“What’s so scary about him?” I asked Jill.
She sighed dramatically, “Gavin’s kind of like our leader. He found us, and made us a team. He’s like an alpha. No one disrespects him, or answers back.” She said.
So Gavin’s the leader here. Well that doesn’t mean he has to make rude comments! A leader is suppost to be respected, not be feared by others.
“Just because he’s the leader, doesn’t mean he can say rude things. Is he always rude?” I asked.
She shook her head, “No, Gavin’s fun, and sometimes sweet. But since we’ve all been together, he’s gotten more… bossy, is the word.” She said, looking at her hands.
I nodded. They shouldn’t let him treat them like that! He’s not the boss of them; they should stand up for themselves!
“C’mon, let’s get you cleaned up.” She said, again as she walked to her dresser and pulled out a pair of clean clothes with under garments. She handed them to me.
“Thanks,” I said, smiling.
She smiled back, “C’mon, I’ll show you the restroom.”
She walked out the door, and I followed behind. She led me to a door, and opened it for me. I walked into the small, bathroom. She smiled, and closed the door behind her.
After cleaning myself up, I walked back outside. Misty and Seth were giggling to each other, Jill was doodling on a piece of paper, and Gavin was nowhere in sight. I let out a sigh of relief; I just didn’t want to confront Gavin just yet. I’ve had enough of his comments for a day. Jill looked up and smiled at me.
“Feeling better?” She asked.
I nodded and lied smoothly. “Yes, thanks.”
In no way was I ever going to feel better. I saw my parents’ dead. I saw a crime scene. The memory of my moms’ bloody body thrown onto the floor in an unnatural position, and my father dead was going to be forever in my mind. In no way would I ever feel ‘better.’
She smiled at me, “Come and sit down.” She said, taking out a chair that was right next to her. I followed and sat onto the cold, wooden seat.
She looked at me sadly for a moment, “I really don’t want to ask, Juliet, but we need information. Do you remember anything about the man you saw when you were running away?”
I felt the tears threatening to escape, so I sniffed, “When I came home from school, I found my parents dead.”- I took in a deep breath, “during school, I found a note saying that my parents were going to be dead when I got home, but I didn’t believe it. I thought it was just another sick prank the populars were playing on me.”
I felt a small tear escape, so I brushed it away. “My dad was already gone, and I watched my mother die. When I started to pack, I heard the man speak. But he was speaking to another man. So I think there were two men.” I said, sniffing.
She rubbed my arm, “Did you get any of their names?”
I nodded, slowly, “Troy was one of them. I didn’t get the other name.”
She nodded, “They’re probably from the dark Rands. You do know there are a good side, and a bad side, right?” She asked.
I nodded.
“Don’t worry, were in this together. Were going to save our powers, were not going to let them get to us.” She said, strongly.
I nodded, and grinned. I believed them already.
