“Once upon a time there was a tree. It wasn’t just any tree, though, it was a magic tree. The tree wasn’t alone in the forest, it was a kingdom. It was inhabited by fairies and fairies in training, known as pixies. The tree lived as long as everything was in order in the Fairy Tree and everyone was happy. But in all the happiness there was darkness lurking in the shadows. The darkness was known as Elmur.
“Elmur used to be a great warrior on the light side, but in the fairy’s last war against the dark his curiosity got the best of him. He went to grab a shard from the Dark Army. The darkness spread through him and he turned,” Ms. Bell started the story, but was interrupted.
“Ms. Bell, what is this story called?” Roman, one of the children, asked.
“It doesn’t really have a title, but based on what you’ve heard, what do you want to call it?”
Roman thought for a bit then said, “Fairy Eclipse.”
Juan, another one of the children, looked at Roman oddly.
“Por que eclipse de hadas? (Why fairy eclipse?)"
“I don’t know. It just seems right seeing as the light and the dark live together. I mean think of an eclipse, the sun and the moon are up at the same time and they live together,” Roman was cut off by a small voice that came from behind a bookshelf. A girl peeked out. She had blonde hair in a braid and icy blue eyes. She said, “And it has fairies. I think it fits the story perfectly.”
Miguel, the librarian, smiled at her and said, “Hi there. What’s your name sweetie? Would you like to join us?” The girl slightly nodded and took a spot between George and Manuel, two more boys that were listening to Ms. Bell’s story.
“My name is Elsana. But everyone calls me Elsa.”
Ms. Bell gave her a kind and sincere smile. Then she said, “We’re glad to have you dear,” and continued with her story.
“He hid in the shadows and watched the light be happy and it disgusted him. He hated watching everyone act like nothing was wrong and there was nothing to fear. He wanted them to fear him and in their fear, make him their King,” She was interrupted yet again by one of the boys.
It was Manuel. “But Ms. Bell, he can’t do that! The Fairy Tree will die and he won’t have anywhere to rule!” He sounded awfully concerned. “Yes that’s true, Manuel. But he didn’t know that.”
The children’s eyes filled with wonder and excitement. Ms. Bell gave them a mischievous grin and continued. “He would kidnap children from the orphanage and innocent people flying down the ‘sidewalks’, so he could make his own Dark Army. One that would be unstoppable by the light. He knew that for him to be king, his army would have to be stronger than the last.
“After a while he had finally gained enough for his army and he used the same shard that had turned him dark on them. He had chained up his victims and grabbed their hand and forcefully pricked their fingers. But with some, they thrashed around so much the shard cutting a gash on their hand.
“Soon enough his army was ready and they swarmed the Fairy Tree and took the guard faes by surprise. No one knew what to do! Elmur and his two best warriors flew into the Royal Fairies’ chambers. He thought he had it in the bag. He would threaten the Royals to make him King and everything would go along as planned. But when he got to their chamber he saw the most beautiful fairy he had ever seen. While his guards grabbed the King and Queen, he just stared. His right hand guard and Second in Command pulled him out of his trance by saying, “Sir, we have the Royals.” He went to grab the beautiful fairy, but Elmur yelled at him, “No! I will take her. Blind fold the King and Queen and go back to Head Quarters.’
“His men nodded and left.
“The girl spoke for the first time, ‘I know who you are.’
Elmur slowed his wings until he landed on the floor of the room. Then he said, ‘Oh really? And just who am I?’
’You’re my Starlight,’ She replied with a happy smile on her face.
“Elmur’s eyes softened for once in his dark life and he smiled a bright sincere smile. It was so bright and kind that went to hold his hand, rays of light spread from them and into Elmur. He exclaimed very excitedly, ‘The Dark Curse is broken! I’m free!’ The light rays then spread from their hands to the rest of the tree and beyond. The whole kingdom was light again. Elmur and the Princess looked at each other with eyes full of love and they kissed! Right on the lips!”Ms. Bell said the last part as she laughed.
All the kids winced and made faces. Juan said,”eso es asqueroso! Se besaron! (that's gross! They kissed!)"
Ms. Bell chuckled and finished the story,” and everyone in the Kingdom was happy once again. The Princess and Elmur got married and Elmur became King the way fate intended him to. And they lived happily ever after!” Elsana clapped and after a while Juan, George, Manuel, and Roman joined in.
Miguel and Ms. Bell looked at each other and smiled. Then Miguel took her face in his hands and kissed her softly. George took notice and yelled suddenly, “Ms. Bell and Mr. Miguel are Starlights!” Elsana gasped and looked at them with wide eyes then she clasped her hands together, put them to the side of her head, tilted her head and said,”Aww.”
A year later Miguel and Ms. Bell were married and had a child. They named him Elam, but all of the story children called him Elmur.
