Prologue || Intro

I don't normally throw out disclaimers but this is a story that I think will definitely need one. This story will follow a very f^cked up relationship between step-siblings (as in no blood relation). This should be no one's "goals" in life this is pure fiction and I hope to god no one is going through anything even remotely similar to this book. With that being said; enjoy!

His slender preteen hand clung to her small wrist tightly as he practically dragged her, "Stop, Baron, I'm gonna scream." She whined, trying to pull out of his grasp it was useless though, he was much bigger than she was and it was only making everything more painful.

His nails dug into her delicate skin at the threat, "Go ahead. Your whore mom won't do anything." He growled, his chestnut brown hair blowing in the breeze. Tears wailed in her eyes, not from the pain, she was used to that but from his mean words. Sophia could never understand how he could go from the greatest big brother ever to the worst in just a matter of seconds.

"You don't mean that..." She said faintly, her lip quivering as she used her free hand to wipe at her face. His narrowed eyes softened as his new sister started to cry. He wanted to hate her, the same way he hated her mother. But it felt impossible, no matter how much he bullied her, she refused to run away from him. Even the one time he snapped and started to hit her uncontrollably, she stayed by his side as he cried with guilt, holding him and telling him it was okay.

"I hate her..." The young boy uttered under his breath, he wasn't sure if he meant Sophia but if he did, it was a lie. He loved her more than he ever loved anything in his life, she was the only source of light in his miserable world. He swallowed the lump in his throat and continued to pull her down the sidewalk, her shoes scraping against the concrete but he knew this was for the best. "Let's go."

The small brunette girl fought against him, he found it amusing, he knew if he simply let go of her arm she'd still stay by his side. "I don't wanna leave!" She sobbed.

"You have to."

Sophia flailed around, her whole body going limp as she tried to weigh him down. "Why do you hate me?" Her voice was just a whisper, it sent a chill down his spine as he stopped suddenly and turned to her. Those big brown eyes filled with sorrow and it broke his heart.

He dropped his grip on her, letting her sink to the ground and he did the same. "Why would you say something so stupid?" He spat, raking his fingers through his hair. He knew this wouldn't be easy, he just never expected it to be this hard.

She sniffled, pulling her knees against her chest and hugging them tightly. "It's why you don't want me around no more." She gasped when he roughly grabbed ahold of her chin, his index finger and thumb painfully digging into her face as he made her look at him.

His eyes swirled with a mix of emotions, all of them trying to dominate the other even though he knew that no matter what he did, rage would always win. "I love you, Sophia. Do you understand me?" He asked stern, she gave a weak nod and his hand tightened against her skin. "I love you so fuckin' much that when I see you do something stupid, I lose all control. The thought of losing you scares the shit out of me. The only thing that scares me more is knowing that one day I could hurt you so bad that you won't be able to stand looking at me. I am dangerous. Your mom is useless and my dad is the worst human being alive. You have so much good in you and you need to get away before we suck the goodness out of you."

"I love you too, Baron." His hand fell away at her words, staring into her beautiful face. He believed her, he never believed anyone who told him those words but when she says them it felt like the truest thing in the world. He sighed, he felt it in his heart. All she had to do was ask not to leave him one more time and he'd cave. Selfishly he was begging her to say the words. To be his to watch out for. "Do I have to go?" She whispered, her fearful eyes dropping to the ground.

"No. You can stay with me forever."
