Danny looked up at the bow legged man. Dean. His father . Just thinking that was...surreal. He was happy, though. He had found his father, he finally had a family. It was about five seconds after that thought crossed his mind that he realized he had no idea what to do next. After all, Danny's ghostly obsession had always been his family (whether built or born, since he considered his friends to be family too) and now that he had finally found not just his father, but an Uncle as well, there was no way he would leave. But, they were ghost hunters. They would probably be just as likely to tear him apart as his last family had been if they knew about his ghost half, and Danny really didn't want to have to live a double life again. He didn't think he would be able to. It had nearly torn him apart last time. The ghost boy's spiraling thoughts were interrupted when Dead- his father- began to speak.
"So... Danny. Why are you here? I understand that I'm you're father, but why bother coming after me now?" Danny took a deep breath to calm his spiraling thoughts. This question was something he could answer. The answer would be sad and it would bring up bad memories, but he could answer the question and that is all that mattered right now. Everything else could wait until later.
"Well," he started out, shakily "It's kind of a long story."
"We've got time." Dean replied. So Danny told them. He sat down at the table in a crappy hotel room in the middle of nowhere and told his father and uncle exactly how his life had crumbled to pieces. He left out any mention of ghosts, but made sure to say that Vlad was the one who had killed his family, just in case they had any plans of sending him to live with that fruitloop. It was a sad tale, and by the time he had finished he was shaking and there were tears in his eyes, but somehow, relating the story had made him feel just a little bit better, just a little bit less anguished. When he was finished, he sighed, looked his father directly in the eyes, and asked the question that had been on his mind
"What happens now?"
"What do you mean? Dean replied warily.
"Will you let me travel with you?"
"I'm no t sure... our job is...dangerous." Dean said in an attempt to tiptoe a round the subject. Danny sighed.
"I know you're hunters if that's what you're worried about." he said. Sam and Dean nearly jumped in surprise.
"How do you know about hunters?" Sam questioned, while reaching for his knife. He had been sure that Danny wasn't a monster, but now he wasn't so certain. Why else would the kid know about hunters? Danny, seemed to have picked up on his nerves, and was quick to explain himself.
"I'm not a monster! Everyone back home knows about hunters! Amity Park is the most haunted place on Earth. It's only ghosts, nothing else, but all of the ghosts are far more powerful than what the rest of the world encounters, and the ambient ectoplasm in the air around Amity makes them stronger." Sam was still suspicious.
"If the place is so haunted how come we haven't heard of it?" He asked.
"Well," Danny started to explain "We don't really allow hunters in. We're all aware of you, because a couple showed up and explained about a month into the hauntings, but they had no idea how to deal with the ghosts, and just ended up making things worse, so the town was declared off limits to the hunter community. You see, hunters actually have a lot of misconceptions about ghosts. This usually isn't a huge issue, because they know enough to take care of the lower powered ghosts, which are just about all that anyone else sees, but Amity kind of attracts powerful specters, so it's best not to have anyone come in, and just leave it an internal matter. We have a lot of ghost hunters in our town, though not all of them are the best at it. The adults, like my parents, they try, but none of the older ghosts hunters who appear do very well. It's actually several teens who have done the most about our ghost problem. I was one of those teens. So, now that you know I can take care of myself, I repeat; will you let me stay with you?" The Winchesters exchanged a look, Sam contemplating and curious, Dean uncertain and still a bit out of it form discovering he had fathered a child. They turned back to Danny, and Sam delivered their answer to the expectant ghost hunter.
"We'll see in the morning, for now, just go to bed. You can have Dean's bed, he'll take the couch."
