Note: The original idea for this came from emotional_chicken21 who made an amazing comic of Popee and Kedamono on Instagram. I recommend you follow them, seeing as they are a very creative and talented artist.
Popee was sitting down, reading a book of some sorts. His dark blue eyes scanning and processing the typed words on the pages.
"Popee!" He heard a voice say.
He closed his book and sat it on the table, before turning around to see who called him.
He felt a soft smile come up onto his face when he realized that it was merely Kedamono, who had a happy expression painted onto the porcelain mask that sat atop his face.
However, instead of the normally star-patterned orange boxer shorts he always wore, he donned a formal, black suit on his lavender fur.
Popee chuckled, looking up at the wolf from where he sat.
"Geez, where are you going, all dressed up like that?" he asked.
"To a dance," Kedamono said. "You should come!"
Popee's smile faded a bit as he sighed softly at the wolf's words. "Keda, you know I don't like those kinds of things..."
"Popee, just this night... please?" Kedamono inquired.
Popee averted his eyes away from him as he thought about it. He normally hated these kinds of things, but Kedamono was pleading for him to do so. He didn't want to let him down.
"Please?" He heard Kedamono ask again.
He huffed slightly. "Fine, but I don't want to dance. I'll just sit to the side," he stated, and he saw his boyfriend's face (well, mask,) brighten in excitement.
"Yay!" the wolf smiled greatly. "I'll be leaving in a few."
"Also, could you possibly dress nice? I don't want you going in and looking like a clown and such," he went on, before pausing, and feeling Popee's glare on him.
"You're right, but, please, just wear a suit or something."
He began to walk into another room to wait for Popee to get changed into something more decent.
The clown looked down at the red and white striped outfit he was wearing, before raising an eyebrow. "But, this is a suit..."
-----------------
Later on, at the dance, the two sat at a table. Popee held a glass in his hand. He wore a suit almost identical to Kedamono's, only that it was a lighter color. It was one of those rare occasions where he actually hadn't had on the pink rabbit-eared hood he normally always donned, so his messy blond pigtails stuck out on top of his head.
"I don't get why I have to dress up if I'm just going to sit here," he sighed, twirling the straw around in his drink, watching the ice cubes dance around in circles in the liquid.
"It's all a part of the mood," Kedamono chuckled softly, before getting up out of his seat. "I'm going to dance, I'll see you later."
Popee had a saddened expression now plastered on his face. "Wait!" he exclaimed, causing the wolf to look around at the other.
"How come you dragged me here, if I'm just going to sit here?"
Kedamono smiled softly at the clown. "You were the one who wanted to sit around," he began, "besides... even if I can't dance with you, I'm happy that you're here."
At this, Popee felt warmth rush to his face at the statement, a rosy color painting his pale cheeks. Kedamono laughed a little, now turning around and heading to the dance floor.
As Popee watched his boyfriend dance with not a care in the world, he felt a smile creep up on his face. "How sweet," he mumbled to himself, and taking a sip of his drink. As he continued to watch him, he could feel his chest tighten, and butterflies flutter in his stomach. "God, I think I'm gay..." (Yes, it actually says that in the comic. It's honestly great.)
-----------------
"Popee!"
Kedamono's voice snapped the clown out of his thoughts.
"Come on!" He waved over to the dance floor.
Popee shook his head. "Nuh-uh, I'm good here, thanks," he said, plainly. He leaned back on his chair, staring out at the crowd of people that Kedamono was surrounded by.
He then sighed, and hopped off his chair, and began to walk away.
-----------------
Kedamono looked over at where Popee was sitting, or where he has sat. He was gone, and his expression now disheartened. He's... gone? he thought. He now stood there, no longer dancing, not even noticing that Popee had returned to his table.
"Kedamono..." Popee said.
"Why aren't you dancing? Come here."
And thus, the wolf walked over to the other male. "I... I thought you left!" he exclaimed.
"Yeah, to get you chicken," Popee stated, holding out a chicken leg for the other.
"I would never straight up leave without telling you," he said. "Stay and sit with me."
Kedamono took the chicken from his hand, and looked at him. "I came here to dance, Popee..."
Popee shrugged.
"You wanted to sit here."
"Yeah, but you dragged me here. Just five minutes..."
Kedamono sighed. "Okay..."
But, wow, those five minutes sure did go by fast. It seemed like Kedamono had been counting the seconds that he could go back and dance again. And... Popee wasn't too happy.
"Ugh, dances are so boring!" he blurted out to himself.
That is... until a cheesy slow song came on. But, Kedamono had no one to dance with.
Popee stood up from his seat, and walked over to his lover. "Excuse me, sir," he said in his most "formal" voice.
Kedamono turned around.
Popee held out a hand. "May I have this dance?"
And at this, Kedamono laughed, and took the clown's hand. "Mhm," he answered.
And so, the two danced. Together, they had felt alone in a ballroom full of so many people. They felt like they were dancing for hours, maybe because the DJ kept playing slow songs. (Okay, but like... here's the thing. Papi was the DJ, okay? Papi was the DJ. Keep that in mind.)
And at the end of every song... they kissed.
After a while, the slow songs stopped... and so did Popee. "I love you, I'm going back to the table," he smiled at Kedamono, and headed back to his seat.
