"Wake up lazy lump! It's your birthday!" Sophie cheered as her and her little five year old daughter Lucie (named after Austin's mum) walked into their room carrying a breakfast tray ,
Austin groaned and sat up, but when he saw his two girls, (or was it his breakfast?) A big cheesy grin spread across his face and he put the tray on the bedside table before pulling them onto the bed and cuddling them as Lucie squealed and giggled,
"How are my girls this morning?" He asked yawning slightly,
"Well daddy today's my first day of school and it's also your 26th birthday so your ooooold," my little girl drawls on,As Austin enjoys breakfast and gets ready for work I dress Lucie in her uniform and pack her a lunch box,
I make a quick run around the house picking up toys along the way and putting them in the little toy chest, then I hear the door flap as I'm enjoying my breakfast,
I see a little white letter on the floor with 'my love' inscribed on the front , I swing open the door , to see no one there,
I sigh because I know who this is from. It's been five years , when will he stop , it started with calls, random short lived visits and now letters, it seems that as much as I try , the werewolf life would never leave me.
I picked up the letter in my shaking hands and I read ,
'I saw you as you sleep my angel, I can't wait for the day you accept me as yours ,
I will always be your mate , I will be yours and you're already mine, just get rid of the child and the husband or I will.I love you, my wolf is going crazy without you, but when I get you, you will pay back for the eight beautiful years we lost .
Sincerely, your mate- Aiden xx'
I drop the note .
His words ring in my brain as I drive out the car to drop of Lucie at school,
I step out the car and automatically realise I'm the youngest mum there, I pull Lucie along as we head into the playground, she immediately makes new friends and I head back to wait at the gate with the other mums,I see a friendly looking woman about 29-30 , the closest to my age,
"Hey there," I smile politely and she looks very relieved
"Hi, im so glad your here, I was so scared there would be nobody my age to speak to and converse with in the mornings!"
"Oh I know me too, I mean I still feel pretty young compared to these 40 year olds, especially since I'm not long out of school myself, I mean yeah I'm not five , but I still feel so new to being an adult," I say
"I completely agree, everyone here is nice but they just can't relate to our young mom problems, I mean I still love hanging out with my school friends, I'm 28," she huffed "I could be in college at parties but I have had to grow up pretty fast,"
The two of us converse and point out our kids who seem to be best friends already ,
"It's been so nice talking to you Soph, I'll see you tomorrow,"
"Bye Julia." I wave to her as I head back to my car, it's so nice to not be the only younger mum at the school, I feel like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders , I now have an adult friend, We can go out for cocktails and brunch, whatever that is.
Then I go can go party with all my friends my age. I was feeling so positive today I almost forgot Aiden's little note .When I get home from the vet surgery , where I am now a fully qualified vetinary assistant, I return home to see a limousine pull up outside my house , before I can panic a whole group of werewolf council members stream out and wait on the path, gently tapping at the door .
"Ah alpha Tanner,Logan and Carla how may
I assist ? I thought I made it blatantly clear five years ago that I wanted the games changed and nothing to do with werewolf life for my baby girl, who by the way I need to pick up soon so if you'll excuse me....." I try to slide past but Logan places a hand on my shoulder holding me in place,"Dear this is about the games, were having one final tournament, which requires all un-mated wolves to take part,"
"Oh no no no, you can't make me, I have a child now, I'm pretty much mated." I growl out clenching my fists
"Oh no, not you , You have , as far as we're concerned done good things in our interest and we're very grateful, as for your mate........
He's gone a bit doo-lally so our solution? Is to hold a final games for all un-mated troublemakers , to see if getting a mate will calm them down,""Uh... okay , that's a bit silly in my opinion, ever heard of Bonnie and Clyde? Two bad people together causing even more chaos?"
"Well this year the whole event will be televised and your mate will be taking part, have a nice day!" Alpha tanner stalks off followed by Logan , however Carla turns to me, "do you mind if I come along to pick up Lucie today? I feel like I haven't seen her in years!"
"Sorry Carla, I'm leaving the werewolf life behind me, that includes you, Mum and dad." And with that I slam the door shut in her face and grab my car keys before heading outside to find her gone, I leave to pick up Lucie with a slight frown on my face, maybe leaving the werewolf life will be harder than I first thought.
