SARAH

I ran. I don't know how I knew that this had never happened before. I don't know if it was the look of Joseph's face, or the way that Lauren slowly backed away from me. Out of all possibilities I had thought of, this was never one of them. I ran for at least a mile before realizing that I just got wings. I did not know how to fly, but I figured it couldn't be too hard. All I had to do was flap, right? Well, I was never more wrong. I tried to picture my wings flapping, but it wouldn't work. It was like suddenly getting another arm that you couldn't control. I finally gave up and began to walk. I figured that I was far enough away to slow down. I don't know where I am going to go. For now, I am just going to keep walking.

 KYLE

After I passed my test, Andrea, my Angel, lead me to this building where all of the other newbies were. Slowly, they trickled in. Every time the door opened, my head snapped up to see if it was Sarah. After a while, an Angel came in and began to speak "Everyone here has passed the test." I spoke up "We are missing someone. We should wait for her." The Angel looked at me. "Everyone who has passed is here." he said again, looking me straight in the eye. "There must be a mistake. Count again." I told him. "No, I make no mistakes. One of you did not make it through the test." he said as if that was the end of the conversation. I couldn't breath. Sarah isn't an Angel.

I didn't hear what was said after that, because I was already running through the door and out of the building. I took my test in the woods, so I figured that was probably where Sarah took hers. She was most likely running in the woods. Then I had a horrible thought.  What if they wiped her memory. I couldn't bare to think that way, so I didn't. I believed in her, she would not let them catch her. She is so strong. I try flying. I try flapping my wings, but it doesn't work. So instead, I think of her. Suddenly, I am lifting off the ground. I immediately head toward the forest. I search for her from the air for a few minutes, before realizing she is probably hiding from the sky. I try to land on my feet, but I tumble and fall on my back. I get up and brush off my wings. I look around, and decide to go to my left. I walk for a while before seeing a bush rustling a few feet ahead of me.

I watch as Sarah slowly walks out from behind the bush. As she walks through a patch of sunlight, I see them. Her wings are jet black. They are just as beautiful as mine, if not more. I start to say something, when she runs towards me and hugs me tightly. I hug her back as she cries on my shoulder. We stand there for a while before she pulls away from me and starts walking. She grabs my hand. I squeeze her hand as we walk, not knowing where we are going or how we will get there.

SARAH

I know what I have to do. Somehow, I need to find out who my parents are and where they are, if they are still alive. I try to tell Kyle that he should go back to the Angel kingdom and that I will be fine on my own. Every time I start to say it, he just looks at me with his piercing blue eyes until I finally stop talking. I know he will not leave my side, but I just don't want him to get hurt because of me. Finally, since I realize he isn't going anywhere, I tell him my plan. He nods slowly and doesn't ask any questions. We continue walking through the forest as the trees start clear out. I know we are out of the trainee safety zone. We are now in the real, unprotected world. Soon, we are walking on the outskirts of the city. We can control when our wings are showing, and we decide to hide them to blend in. We do not know exactly what we are looking for, but for now, all we need is a place to stay.

Soon we come across a small cottage that is within a walking distance of the market. I knock on the door and an older woman with long, gray hair and kind eyes opens the door. I ask her if she has two rooms to spare for Kyle and I. She smiles and motions for us to follow her. "Are you sure about this?" Kyle whispers to me. "Yes." I tell him. "Where else are we going to stay?" He shrugs as the lady shows us two rooms, side by side. We have nothing to unpack, so we follow her into the kitchen. She pours us each a glass of milk and offers us some homemade bread before sitting down at the table.

"What is your names?" the lady asks us. "I am Sarah," I say "and this is Kyle". "It is a pleasure to have you both here." she says. "Haven't had many folks coming to stay  for a while." "My name is Charlotte, but everyone around here calls me Cherry. The name started years ago when I started growing cherry trees and everyone from around here would come and sit on my porch, eating cherries and spitting the seeds into the yard. The name stuck ever since then." she smiled at the memory. For some strange reason, I felt the need to trust her immediately. There was something about her that made you want to trust her. A plan started forming in my head and I was distracted from the conversation. The rest of the questions were general things, such as age. But she didn't ask why we were here or where our parents were. I had a feeling that Cherry knew more than she was letting on.
