In a small village located north of Japan, on an island they had discovered, was called nanamake. Everyone was at work or school, birds sang, cars ran down the highway, and a certain little boy sat in his classroom. Midori, the little boy, had brown hair that almost looked long enough to be a girls, he had a blue t-shirt on, and his blue jeans. He was a shy boy who didn't talk much, and was easily embarrassed, but he had his talents, mostly in drawing. His only friend was a girl named Akari, the same age as him, eight, both were in the third grade.

Akari was a cute girl, at least to Midori, She had beautiful, pink hair that she had dyed, a little yellow bow rested on top, she wore a white shirt, just the right size, and a white skirt, which came just up to her knees, and a pair of red sandles, she always looked on the positive side of everything, She was also the smartest person in his class as far as he could tell. She was serious about her schoolwork, and got nothing less that a ninety nine in every subject.

Midori on the other hand made nothing above a C, ever, not because he was dumb, but because of his nature, as well as his other classmates around him, he never did good around his enemies, which he had a lot of. He often wondered if Akari thought he was dumb, though she never acted like it.

Soon math class ended and it was time to go home. Midori walked out into the hall, put his stuff in his backpack, and headed for the front door of the building, but was cut short by three burly fifth graders a hall away. Midori backed away nervously as one spoke, " How did you do on your math test? " Midori didn't answer. "Don't wanna talk again huh, runt." Another said. Midori felt his face turning red in fear. "Hey, leave him alone!" They all turned to see Akari dashing tword them and pushing through a small group of her classmates. "A-akari stay out of this, th-they will hurt you too!" Midori shouted as Akari neared them.

"Hey, what's going on!?!" Akari stopped in her tracks and saw her, and Midori's math teacher, Mrs. Omi, walking twords them.
