Trevor's POV
The moment the police dog stopped in front of Cali's bag, I felt my heart sink. It didn't make sense for her to have some sort of drug stashed in her bag, it's not really like her to do it. Yes, I know she smokes every so often and I do scold her for it, but illegal drugs was never something she was into. At least that's what I thought.
"Holy shit," Bradley breathes out once Cali is escorted by the police out the door.
Krista has her head resting on her hand as she draws random scribbles on her notes with her pen, probably astounded by what she just saw. The rest of the class speaks in hushed tones, but I am able to grapple some short sentences.
I always knew she was a druggy.
But she's so cool, she hardly put up a fight.
I wonder what else could be in that bag of hers.
I close my eyes, not being able to bare the voices of others talking about Cali like that. But then I remember, I have to stop with how I feel about her after what happened. She somehow got herself into this mess and I have to stop seeing her as the victim. When the cop took the weed out of her bag she denied it, but that's what anyone would have done, isn't it? But there was something about the way she said it; the slight chuckle in her tone and the subtle crack in her voice when she tried to speak, didn't go unnoticed by me.
"It just doesn't make sense," Blake starts in a serious tone, as we stand around our cars in the school parking lot, "Since when did Cali do drugs?"
"I mean, she was hanging out with that John Matthews for a little bit and doesn't he do weed?" Krista asks, unconsciously keeping her body close to Blake, but I notice.
It's silent between the four of us for a bit, revelling in the event that occurred. The school parking lot is nearly vacant, leaving us deciding what to do.
"I swear to god if John Matthews is the reason behind this I'll pound his face in," Bradley says with his hands clenched at his sides.
Blake too, notices the anger coursing through Brad, raising his eyebrows in surprise. "Wow since when are you so protective over Cali? You guys have always had that hate relationship."
Bradley unclenches his fists slightly, mumbling lowly to himself but I'm able to catch it, "Actually she's always the one who hated me." My mind wonders what could be going through Bradley's head right now. I didn't think he cared enough for Cali that he'd bash a guys face in for her.
"What do you think, Trevor?" Krista asks me, "You're pretty quiet."
I shove my hands in my jacket pockets, keeping my eyes fixated on the black pavement. "I don't believe that they're hers. It just doesn't make sense." I don't think anyone else knows that Cali has smoked in the past, but I don't bother bringing it up because that would just cause an even bigger stir.
"None of us think it makes sense man, but we saw it," Blake says, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"It doesn't matter," I growl, "You can't automatically believe that it was hers just because of that. We know her better than that." I frustratedly run my hands through my hair, probably pulling a few strands out in the process.
I hear the scuffling of feet behind me and when I turn around I am surprised to see Victoria jogging toward us. "Hey guys, I heard about Cali," she breathes, then turns to Brad. "Is that why you weren't answering my texts?"
He looks down at her with his sad brown eyes, nodding his head slowly. I quirk my head to the side, trying to understand what his deal is. Does he have these feelings for Cali that nobody knows about? Victoria's face drops and I can sense the awkwardness she is feeling. "Yeah, I understand. It's been going around the school."
