It all began when Noah broke up with her.
Tossing and turning all night.
Her mom would slap her and call her shit every morning.
"He wouldn't have left you if you didn't look like fucking shit."
She was used to it by now.
Her mom only cared for Noah because his parents were the rich, snobby ones in the big neighbourhood up the road. Noah was a douche as well as his parents. Her mom was only in it for the money.
She knew she cared about her, she just didn't show it very well.

Her dad had died when she was three so she doesn't much memories.
She remembers shouting and a smell she can't exactly put her finger on.
It was a horrid smokey smell almost like gone off perfume or spray.

Her mother walked out and went downstairs to smoke and drink her coffee as she yelled about what Scarlet had to do that day,
"Your room looks like a hurricane came through your window, you need to clean it and up to my standards, make breakfast-", she was cut off as a loud shriek could be heard, "AND LET THIS DAMN CAT OUTSIDE!"

Scarlet sighed, another day another dollar, right? wrong.

She got up and opened up the curtains, today's forecast calls for-
Rain, how horrible.
At least she won't have to hang out washing on the line.

She got dressed into-
A black hoodie with a print of some generic 'basic white girl' quote,
You know the ones with the Starbucks coffee, superstar adidas and the phrases like, "OMG SHUT THE FUCK UP BECKY!!"
Black jeans with a red rose patch on the pockets.
And yep you guessed it,
Black converse.
How typical.
No wonder she got called 'the emo chick' at school.
She wasn't even emo though.
She just looked like a stereotype.

She cleaned her room and made her mother an omelette.
Scarlet wasn't hungry so she just ate a pear.

A couple hours later,
Scarlet's mother had left for work and Scarlet was home alone, well except for Maverick the cat, he was a grey cat with glorious green eyes.

She decided to clean the house and try to make her mother a little less tense when she came home when suddenly, there's a loud whizzing noise and a blinding flash so bright she had to close her eyes.
